dantewallace Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 As a kid I used to stand in Kay Bee toys in the mid 80's staring at this kit on the shelf, wishing I could buy it. Back then $30 was allot of money to an eight year old. Even after mowing lawns, and doing chores for allowance I could never ...save up the money for this before someone else bought it. They only kept one on the shelf at a time. Fast forward 28 yrs later and I finally found one. I really wish I could have done something about the poor quality out of the box on the glass but it was molded with the imperfections deep in the plastic. No amount of wet sanding could save it, I tried. First time I have ever been disappointed with a Testors/Fujimi kit.
simonr Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Forget about the glass, you did a great job here anyway! Simón P. Rivera Torres
Gluhead Posted July 30, 2013 Posted July 30, 2013 Is that the one that had the Road & Track box art at some point? You did a fine job on it.
dantewallace Posted July 30, 2013 Author Posted July 30, 2013 Is that the one that had the Road & Track box art at some point? You did a fine job on it. No, this has the box art with the yellow sides and the model is sitting on a bench with paint glue etc
Gluhead Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 No, this has the box art with the yellow sides and the model is sitting on a bench with paint glue etc Gotcha. I had the car 'zine wrong anyway. I didn't even have the model company right. The one I was thinking of was a Revell, from their Car and Driver series. Ah well, I am a year older today so my memory should prove itself failing. lol. Either way, yours looks pretty good.
WizPorsche944 Posted July 31, 2013 Posted July 31, 2013 That paint is absolutely flawless. What did you use ?
dantewallace Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) That paint is absolutely flawless. What did you use ? The paint consists of 3 coats Testors Italian red lacquer, and 4 coats of Model Master Ultra gloss lacquer clear. I then wet sanded using 4K,6K,8K, and 12000 grit, followed up with polishing compound and brazil carnauba. Edited August 1, 2013 by dantewallace
Davewilly Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Looks beautiful! I didnt see anything wrong with the glass until the door was open and you looked thru the windshield.....No one will be getting SMALL to drive it so I wouldnt worry about the glass! Excellent job!
dantewallace Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 Thanks for all of the compliments guys!! I really appreciate it.
Mike Kucaba Posted August 2, 2013 Posted August 2, 2013 You did a great job on that! Is it the one done 1/20th scale?
dantewallace Posted August 2, 2013 Author Posted August 2, 2013 You did a great job on that! Is it the one done 1/20th scale? Correct,1/20. I myself didn't realize the scale of it until I went to put it into a brand new display case and it wouldn't fit lol.
