Cato Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Well it's here and now and cheap enough. Too bad about Nissan power for such a beautiful original shape: http://www.foxnews.com/leisure/2013/08/01/new-zealander-building-3d-printed-aston-martin-db4/?intcmp=features
Harry P. Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Amazing stuff. And it's headed to a workbench near you in the not-so-distant future.
Ace-Garageguy Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 Remarkable how technology marches on in spite of the nay-saying Luddites.
MachinistMark Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 What's so bad about Nissan power? I'm as die hard gm as they come but those rb series engines are one bad mother... 1000 horse on mostly stock rotating Assemblies ? That's some tasty stuff right there
Cato Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 What's so bad about Nissan power? While I agree that motor can make big power, it's just too incongruous (modern) with that classic, pure Aston shape. I spent a lot of time with a DB5 and that elegant 6 taught me about the simplicity of torque. Very similar to the later E-Type. I'd have used a Brit big 6 in that replica.
martinfan5 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) That is very cool, and even better thats going to be powered by a Nissan RB motor I believe it was ABC news that reported this, but it was that you can print using gold, I do not remember the details, but the story basically said you can make your own jewelry with 3D printers While I agree that motor can make big power, it's just too incongruous (modern) with that classic, pure Aston shape. I would agree if it was an original car Edited August 1, 2013 by martinfan5
martinfan5 Posted August 1, 2013 Posted August 1, 2013 (edited) I double posted, but since we can no longer delete our post, I am posting this instead Edited August 1, 2013 by martinfan5
Cato Posted August 1, 2013 Author Posted August 1, 2013 I would agree if it was an original car Then we can disagree. In the world of replicas, original type powerplants add desirability and resale value. Cobras, Grand Sports and Heritage Jaguars are examples. A Fiero-engined Lamborghini is an example of the exact opposite. All the effort the builder put in to an exact body is lost when the hood goes up on a Nissan.
