crazyrichard Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 (edited) I've been glancing at your build every once in a while since the start... It is a very interesting WIP you have going here thnx On my chopped 32 I also stuggled with the floor pan. I like what you ended up with for sure. yes i did too when i build my 32 5-window from revell and in the end i was not happy with the result .. so on this one i wanted to get it right and make sense its fairly easy first put the body on a sheet of styrene or plastic and in my case that was an option with the open roof .. i was able to draw along the inside and cut it out and have the correct inner shape .../ a whole one piece fitting floor if the roof is closed i guess you could dran around the outside onto the sheet and draw a new line minus the thickness of the body .. bit harder but .. then i had a fitting floor .. i then layed it loose on the chassis and put the body on in the correct position and hight .. then i could mark on eitch side the outer pieces that i glued on the outside of the chassis (with the pointy shape) that follow the side lines .. the middle pieces where easy just layed the chassis on some sheel material and drew the lines , cut it out and glued them in the outer parts are the hardest to get exactly right without any bog gaps .. hope this made sense and was understandable Edited October 2, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted October 2, 2013 Author Posted October 2, 2013 still in the rough building ...... made a new rear wall (behind the seat area , the bench is only for dryfitting i will put in 2 seats also dryfitten a piece of driveshaft the driveshaft see from the bottom sawded a pen to pieces and made the base of the tunnel with that , rough draft with the engine and inside you see the tunnel that runs in the back wall , just need to fil the seems and get the tunnel looking nicer with some detail and a shifter
crazyrichard Posted October 5, 2013 Author Posted October 5, 2013 oput some bondo in the floor and tunnel and gave it a first sandjob dryfit with a amazingly spaceous inside after such a extreme set up enough work to be done but i'm building at a quarter speed this winter i think the projects will go much faster haha
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 5, 2013 Posted October 5, 2013 Nice progress on a very interesting build.
rv1963 Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 I really like these old rod builds, I like those door hinges one day I will give that a try, nice work.
Rob McKee Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 What an awesome build Richard. I can't wait to see the finished product.
RocknRolla Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Its looking sweet man, love that tunnel idea! Thanks for sharing
Shardik Posted October 6, 2013 Posted October 6, 2013 Looking very sinister, Richard. I love it! You're making good progress for 1/4 speed . (I must be working at 1/64 speed)
Mooneyzs Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 Richard.... I have no idea how I missed this build but you sir are doing one outstanding job on this. I am loving everything about this build. You have nailed it with the stance and all of the work you are doing to it so far. It's inspired me to pull out my rat rod I started almost 3 years ago. Looking forward to your next update. Keep up the great work.

(I must be working at 1/64 speed) thnx and well my normal speed ..hmm its usually hyper haha .. no when i build i ususally get a lot done so a few short sessions ... and last week i was tired and took the saturday and sunday to do stuff on this project .. didnt feel like doing anything else in the wintertime i build every night like 1-2 hours , then you really get a lot done .. now i'm still not in the mood to build in the weekday evenings This build is crazy cool Keep it coming. Mark thnx mark

Looking forward to your next update. Keep up the great work. thnx thnx and yes do so i'm curious on that yesterday evening i decided to chop the grille and radiator , needed it to dryfit the engine and deside on pullys and drivebelt , and fan work.. the material was so thin i desided only to use the radiator itself and the top of teh grilleshell.. just made the rest myself very rough first draft , need to clean it up , add stuff and make a insde (radiator) seen from the front with the engine , now it so tight space wise .. i managed to get some pully's with a belt on and a fan and i got it to fit .. but its close .. thats due to the steering rod , that needed to go on top because of the way i build the front and the ride hight , but the grille / radiator should go a tiny bit forward .. i think i will try to make the firewall a bit more open so the engine can slide just a tad back also i will make the fan fall inside of teh radiatorshell .. ps.. i could use / make a electric fan but tbh i would rather use a old fashion fan on the engine , i want it to stay more period looking ..
crazyrichard Posted October 7, 2013 Author Posted October 7, 2013 well removed my custom trannymount / bracket , that was the issue , took a bit of fideling but now i could use my fancy dremel , never used it for modelbuilding , its great the revs can be set from dead slow to superfast now the engine is sitting lower and thats just way better , also better proportioned now i cut up a old blower house and made a smaller version of that i maybe going to use that as a base for a oldskool blower set up with carbs and stacks , need to look for a example i know a few cool versions , just got to deside whats best overall , so much better proportioned , cant believe i did not realise sooner the engine was sitting too high.. well could have known but when setting the ride hight i wanted to make sure i had enough ground clearance .. a bit to much afterall haha
bpletcher55 Posted October 7, 2013 Posted October 7, 2013 RICHARD I,ED BE LOST WITH OUT MY DREMEL ,GREAT WORK !
RocknRolla Posted October 8, 2013 Posted October 8, 2013 RICHARD I,ED BE LOST WITH OUT MY DREMEL ,GREAT WORK ! So would I lol ! It's looking great Richard
crazyrichard Posted October 8, 2013 Author Posted October 8, 2013 haha thnx , well i usually use small metal files , really works nice , the dremel is dangerous haha before you know it you cut more then you want
crazyrichard Posted October 9, 2013 Author Posted October 9, 2013 went on with the engine yesterday evening .. made a blower using parts from my partsboxes , looked online for some rough examples of superchargerd flatheads its ment to be a small supercharger like i have seen more on the flathead .. now i found several pics of the poelies and belts .. i already made 2 rods with a large belt on 2 pielies with i tightening poelie .. i found some pics where the set up was a bit like what i did now (below).. 100% accurate ? maybe not but it looks a lot like some of the exampes i saw if somebody thinks noooo thats .. just say so then i filed and sanded a square opening on top of the charger and worked in a carb ..
zaina Posted October 9, 2013 Posted October 9, 2013 Like what you have so far. But the pulleys are wrong. Every one looks about right except for the big one on the drivers side. If you changed it to match the small one on the other side it would be just about right. But it is your build and you can make how ever you imagine it. After all we build these things for fun, right?
crazyrichard Posted October 10, 2013 Author Posted October 10, 2013 just one carb needs a sixpack of carbs yes i know but ...i just have no room i'm still thinking what to put on top , one stack would be weird ?? a aircleaner .. hmm hard .. Like what you have so far. But the pulleys are wrong. Every one looks about right except for the big one on the drivers side. If you changed it to match the small one on the other side it would be just about right. But it is your build and you can make how ever you imagine it. After all we build these things for fun, right? no no thats the kind of input i can really use .. like i said it was not easy to find the exact richt set up .. now one thing is .. when everything is in you can hardly see the pully's with the radiator in place , but i def like this input and thats always welcome and like you said yes we build them for fun , although i'm now at a point i just want stuff to make sense i will dryfit the set up ounce more and then deside if you can even see the pully's ...i think they become almost invisible .. then it would be wirk for soemthing you dont see only to swap a pully for a smaller size .. but thnx for the input , if it shows i will try to adjust it
Shardik Posted October 10, 2013 Posted October 10, 2013 Richard, as you can see from this 1948 Ford sales brochure, the flathead V8 has two water pumps located simetricaly midway down the front of the block. Hope this helps.
