crazyrichard Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 Richard, as you can see from this 1948 Ford sales brochure, the flathead V8 has two water pumps located simetricaly midway down the front of the block. Hope this helps. thnx ! and yes i also have several pictures like that .. but also have some pics with blowers on the flathead and tbh there are so many different set ups .. awsome brochure pic btw i already removed the blower and made a lower inlet manifold .. the blower wa a bit to high for my liking .. its will sit lower as on the previous pictures because there it just sits on the table but it still needed to be lower . i want the blower level or at least just a hair higer then the front of the body , so when i put some stacks on it those will be the only part that stick out in front of the windscreen. also removed the single carb plate and will make 2 small individual and then linked carbs with small stacks , just like a example i found something similair to these on top nice build! looks good so far! thnx
crazyrichard Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 (edited) well added a alternator on top next to the blower , just like some example pics i saw online , made a pully on it with a belt to the blower axle also started on 2 carbs on the blower dryfit , not ride hight just on the table then used a large toy manifold i had left (had 2) and cut a large part off , made a center pipe , all rough first set up on the engine set them so they floow the line of the front of the cab Edited October 11, 2013 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted October 11, 2013 Author Posted October 11, 2013 made them longer woth other plastic and slash cut them seen from the side , on this poic it was just glued , needed to sand the pipe so it was one and the same instead of the ticker part of the slashcut inbetween i altered the steering rod and made steel pins instead of the kit plastic , to keep it in place u used some tiny tiny brass sleeves from a sawing kit and clamped them tight and used some second glue to ... works great and much more steady now then sanded the headers / pipes and found a nice small scoop in the partsbox , that was a lousy cast and needed a lot of sanding i loved the look so desided to use the scoop instead of stacks lose dryfit and well most is scrap stuff , scrap plastic and some left over parts from kits out of the partsboxes .. really coming together now i like the size of the scoop not to massive and well proportioned gave the scoop and pipes / header a light coat of poly bondo the engine will also get some throttle stuff and linkage , fuell lines , wiring and spark plug wires
exesivefire Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 I love this build, reminds me of younger days when I would just search my parts bins for something tommake what I needed. I wish I still had all those parts! Great work!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Wow!! That is sweet! Nice fab work you've done my friend!
crazyrichard Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 (edited) thnx guys and yes thats def. fun .. i had the luck a guy who has build for years stopped with the hobby , well he had to because he could not do it anymore because of the sanddust and paint and glue ...and his health (longs) so thats not really like yeeeeyy but he really liked my work and asked me if i wanted to buy some of his left over kits and when i went over to buy them he gave me a few filled partsboxes he wanted his stuff to go to somebody who would really use it and he follows my builds and often laughs when he recognises his old parts in my builds .. now on every kit i build i just alwyas have so many spares left untill now i just keep filling those boxes hehehe\ so yes its just so nice to be able to get creative and let the parts guide you .. but tbh i also use a lot of scrap stuff found anywhere , like most plastic in this car is either from sprue's or from old window blinds works great and was for free , evergreen is awsome but those prices ...... crazyrichard Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 well after a lot of failed attempts i finally glued in some round rings in the sparkplug holes , added fuellines on the carbs from brass like guitar string and gave it a overall sand job. then sprayed a base coat of black to work on , will get a lot of chrome accents and other details the fuellines are ribbed so later on you will see this with a wash , will become very cool already used this on the copper colored deuce and that worked out great on that
bpletcher55 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 RICHARD ,GOING ALONG NICE ,I,V GOT 2 1950 CHEVY,S IM WORKING ON .ONE FOR A FRIEND WHO PASTED A WAY AND ONE FOR ME ,
crazyrichard Posted October 12, 2013 Author Posted October 12, 2013 thnx blair and whow well thats one special build then .. must feel very special ?! paint on the engine and valve covers still tacky .. i could not resist scraping the paint of on the engine where i needed to glue the covers and very carefully glued them in place ... all went well i was glad i could save them after drilling to big holes for the spark plug holes to try brass sleeves .. now with the new plastic round things it looks great again pfffttt .. glad otherwise i would have to scratchbuild new covers .. would be cool to do but i still have so much going on in this build on the pics there is a bare styrene edge in front of the valve covers from scraping of the paint to glue them on that needs to be painted black again so dont mind that hight difference with my copper deuce .. the tudor is sitting on the table on the pics not ride hight but that wont be a lot higher next to one of my early builds the 3-window coupe deuce , about the same hight (roofline)
Johan020 Posted October 12, 2013 Posted October 12, 2013 Great looking rod as always Can we see it in reel live at IMPS end of this month ? I am a great fan of your work

I am a great fan of your work thnx hmm maybe i will go sometime in the future , not real big on contests or dont feel the need to compete (whow i'm rhyming lol ) but i may go in the future just for the fun I can only agree Seeing this, makes me want to build a Hotrod. thnx and go for it
crazyrichard Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 It's coming together nicely Richard! Love itthx .. yes it now just a matter of getting good mounts for the engine / body and get all the details there so i can start paint
Dinky Posted October 13, 2013 Posted October 13, 2013 go for it Yeah I will I got one here already, but I told myself to complete the started ones before opening a new one. Its good that the box is sealed with plastic
crazyrichard Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 Yeah I will I got one here already, but I told myself to complete the started ones before opening a new one. Its good that the box is sealed with plastic yes thats best i still manage to only build one car at a time , works best for me I really like where you are going with this. thnx !
crazyrichard Posted October 13, 2013 Author Posted October 13, 2013 well started chrome on the engine , did the belt in matt , pullys chrome , blower en scoop chrome , weathered headers then really went for it , just wanted a raw look bit vintage feel ...alright its ratty ...lol header pipe looks weird but the engine is sitting wrong and not level on the pic just put everything loose on the table paint wasnt dry yet
crazyrichard Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 well went on with the engine and so after the chrome and then a filth wash i did more chrome , now the surface is not supersmooth and the chrome is rubbed with a cloth after the second coat so it became less shiney .. about the look i wanted , not real rat like but not shiney either just a rougher looking engine closed the rear section , that is attached to the chassis .. under the closed section i already made a fueltank .. on the flat surface i will make a airride tank with hoses and all , and drill a hole in the corner so i can make a fillerneck / hose from the fuelktank with a bend to the side just after the rear side window , or maybe the rear under the rear window in the middle. not sure yet i think behind the side window because then you will see a hole / fillerneck and thats a nice detail to see imo
crazyrichard Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 glued the radiator in place .. and made a first rough test version of a canvas roof first rough draft made from plastic put some bandage tape on it in the end choose for this set up below sprayed it with a can of matt army paint the next version will be wider and overlap the gap onto the roof edge , i will drill tiny holes along the roofgap and insert bushes , then in the rolled up canvas i will make chrome pin heads so it looks like those click mounts ...
crazyrichard Posted October 15, 2013 Author Posted October 15, 2013 haha thnx !! , i just wondered what would happen with some thin old plastic and when i heated it i could make wrinkels that looked cloth likelike i said this was the test version now i like iot i will make a def. version
