o-man Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Ok you Porsche heads I need your help. I've got both the Revell 911 Turbo and the older Carrera kits. What I need to know is what colors to paint engines and covers? I've seen silver and gunmetal on-line. I've also seen red, black and cream engine covers and fans. Help, please and thank you.
Foxer Posted September 19, 2013 Posted September 19, 2013 Not sure how these links showing colors will help .. Some factory restorations ... http://www.porsche.com/usa/accessoriesandservices/classic/garage/reference/911factoryrestoration/finish http://www.porsche.com/international/accessoriesandservice/classic/garage/reference/911factoryrestoration/finish/ http://www.porsche.com/international/accessoriesandservice/classic/garage/reference/911factoryrestoration/ Shroud colors.. http://forums.pelicanparts.com/porsche-911-technical-forum/31223-what-engine-shroud-colors.html
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 20, 2013 Posted September 20, 2013 (edited) For engines thru 2.4 liters, SUPPOSEDLY the colors of the shrouds were yellow for the T, green for the E, and red for the S. I have a 2.7S that has black shrouding. It's rather common to see red shrouds / fans on 930 engines (the early 911 turbo), but I don't recall whether that was factory...it's been years since I've worked on one. The cases, cylinder heads and jugs would be an aluminum color, and the exhausts something similar to stainless for a brandy-new engine, or a weathered gray for something a little older. Many hot-rod Porsche engine builders also have signature colors for their engines, and some car owners have had the shrouds painted to match the car. A lot of variation is possible unless you're doing an absolutely stock build...in which case, look up pix for the particular year and engine you're doing. Edited September 20, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
