Mr. Can Am Garage Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I need to match the yellow/orange/saffron on the body sides. I'm leaning towards Ford's Grabber Orange. Tamiya Sprays Orange is too orange to my eyes. What do you say?
robertw Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 I painted this model for a friend a few years ago. I ended up using Tamiya Camel Yellow over Grey primer as I recall. It wasn't a perfect match but considering that you're basing your match on photos on the web it was close enough. Your biggest problem will be all that chrome. My original intention was Alclad but after painting and stripping three times and still not being satisfied I finally did it in Tamiya Gloss Aluminum. I'd recommend sending those parts out to be professionally chromed. robw
bigphoto Posted November 8, 2007 Posted November 8, 2007 Hey Rob, You may want to think outside the hobby box and see if your local DIY hdwe has a Yellow Ochre paint maybe Krylon or Rustoleum(use good primer here). Just my .02 pennies,

Modelmartin Posted November 9, 2007 Posted November 9, 2007 I have found that airbrushing decanted "Chrome " spray paint gives a really nice bright aluminum finish like new unpolished aluminum. That may look better than plating in some situations. Looking forward to seeing your build of this kit.

I noticed that you didn't make a recommendation for the Saffron.....
Brendan Posted November 11, 2007 Posted November 11, 2007 For trying to match the yellow, have you tried MCW? He will custom mix paints for you at a pretty reasonable price. I have used him several times and he has come through for me every time in matching up paints. Look on his web site and either email him or send him a colored photo and he can match it. Hope this helps. Let us know when you get finished. I would like to see what it looks like when it's done.

I knew he could match colours but I hadn't thought about checking with him.
