First off Jeff, you're building one of my all time favorite 1:1's I've owned in the past! I had a '69 with the 390, 4 spd, 3:54 rear end with posi. She was a stripped down original with NO options (drum brakes and no pwr steering!) and could tear your head off in any gear! :o

Boy do I sure miss that car!

I owned it from '87-'92 and sold it when I was about to be stationed down in South Carolina at Fort Jackson in '92. I could kick myself now as I was sent home on a medical discharge not long after I got there due to a knee injury. Had my crystal ball been working, I would have never sold it! ;) A guy up in Berwick bought it.................not sure if he still owns it after 15 years.

And yes, AMX's were rare even when I had mine 20 years ago................and they're now getting decent prices on the collector market. One nice thing about 1968- 70 AMX's is you can't fake 'em.................either ya got one or ya don't! Unlike Mustangs and 'Vette's ( and others) that can be faked with big blocks, or Shelby conversions, etc.

Your engine detail is a knockout!! It looks like the Group 19 parts you put on that were available from the dealer in '69! B) The color you want to build it in is a good one with the black stripes (part of the Go Pack option).

I definitely want to follow this one! Keep us posted!

One more thing Jeff, what engine did you use.............the one out of the Johan kit? Yours is giving me inspiration to maybe build one next year, but I can't stand the engine as is in the kit. ;)

It needs a LOT of mods to make correct and yours is looking exactly right per the 1:1!

One of my favorites also. My 1/1 was a '70, 360 with Go Pack, automatic ;) . My Dad owns it now, needs restoration, and I can't get him to sell it back. B):o I've also got a few AMX model projects in the works. Kind of on an AMX kick lately, and this just fuels the fire. Your engine looks really good. Is the chassis getting the same attention? I will be looking forward to updates. Build on.

That engine looks phenomenal, Jeff! ;) I always like to see your builds with all the scratchbuilt metal parts. They are an inspiration to all of us. I can't wait to see the butterscotch paint, it is such an unusual car color. Leave it to American Motors for wacky colors.... B)

Jeff the closest I can think of chassis wise that might do may be the one out of the '67 Mustang from Ertl. You may have to shorten it up a bit, and some of the frame details may need corrected, but they have pretty much the same unibody construction.

Heck even the front suspension and inner fenders are similar!

The front suspension you probably could use, because it looks for all the world like AMC's trunion setup which was used through 1969. AMC switched to a standard ball joint setup for '70.

Wow, that's a great looking engine! Ol' Hank Borger of Car Model magazine would be proud. My favorite writer at the time. He liked to build AMC models, some very radical! How about a rear engined Javelin with "Experimental" 16 plug AMC Hemi.....? I think it was called Ghost Dancer.
