TexMexSu Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Hello Old time/part time modeler from Illinois here. Wondering if anyone has heard of JD Booth. He entered our Model Car Contests back in the '90's but I have not heard from/of him since. I have one of his early models I would like to return to him. Thanks.
High octane Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Welcome Jeff, and I just saw JD Booth at the DuPage Swap Meet in Wheaton last month.
crazyjim Posted October 19, 2013 Posted October 19, 2013 Welcome Jeff. What part of Illinois you from?
TexMexSu Posted October 20, 2013 Author Posted October 20, 2013 We skipped DuPage this time, other plans. We are located in the Aurora/Naperville area.
crazyjim Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 Wow, Jeff. I left Aurora for FLA. My house was in the Butterfield subdivision along Butterfield Road (RT 56) just west of Eola road.
TexMexSu Posted October 21, 2013 Author Posted October 21, 2013 We will be headed to Arizona in about 4 years. A VW enthusiast by chance are you? (avatar) We are in the process of shipping one from Arizona to us now.
Harry P. Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Greetings from right up Rt. 59 (Elgin area).
crazyjim Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 I've always had a soft spot for VWs, Jeff. Owned a few Bugs and the dune buggy in my avatar. Now I'm looking for a baja bug. Who are you using to transport from AZ?
shucky Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 Hi Jeff, welcome! I remember JD, he's an awesome guy. Super nice and super talented. In the 90's I won the "JD Booth" award with my Prostreet El Camino at a Boulder Hill contest. Those were the good old days lol. I have seen him at the DuPage show myself. My bro lives in Aurora / Naperville area as well.
High octane Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 JD is a VERY talented builder and won big a few times when Craig Sincora and I were runnin' the contest for Tom Lima Jr. at the Hillside Holiday Inn back in the mid-80's
TexMexSu Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 I always liked JD, in fact I purchased several of his early cars and even commissioned one being built. I would like to return his Corvette if he wants it. It is in need of a few repairs but I know it was one of his first and he may want it back. Some of you should know me then as my cousin Ed and I ran the Boulder Hill Contest the last few years. (Paid for it today) I am using Uship and the carrier will be determained Tuesday evening when the auction ends. Found the car on Samba.com.
shucky Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Jeff, I dont think we've every met although I attended every Boulder Hill contest. I know the Al's Hobby Shop crew / family was behind the show along with local sponsors but thats all I knew. Those shows were top shelf to say the least. Very well run and organized. Never had a problem there and it was always the highlight of the year for me to attend. I remember JD's Corvette build and his beautiful Cobra build as well. Those were good times.
TexMexSu Posted October 22, 2013 Author Posted October 22, 2013 Golden MIle Street Machine club started the contest. When they no longer were interested my cousin (Ed) and I kept it going. Al's was involved but did not actually run it. They did help a lot a few years toward the end. Cathy and her two daughters. Ed was the guy that really did the work behind the scenes. Getting a place to host the event that was free and making sure that everyone walked away with something. Never has a little local model car show had the amount of doorprizes that he arranged! (and a totally free contest at that!) The Corvette has suffered a bit over the years and is in need of a rebuild....... JIm Photo soon, but not until it is here in person. Last time we had a Baja lined up I posted a picture and the deal went south. I do not want to jinx this one, even though it is paid for I still need it shipped.
disabled modeler Posted October 22, 2013 Posted October 22, 2013 Welcome Jeff....from one in IL. to another
