mnwildpunk Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 One of the first models I did when I got back into modeling has been screaming out it's main flaw everytime I look at it. It was the first time I painted anything in over 12 years and the paint on the body of it looks like the surface of the moon. It looked half way decent and fairly shiney being there was no puddles but I believe I shot each coat to thin so it wasn't able to level out? I have gotten much better since. (look at my duster in the under glass for proof) i'm not quite sure how to pose the question. I have color sanded later paint jobs with great results but idk if there is to much of a difference between the high and low spots on this one. I guess what I'm asking is if I take my time and color sand it starting with maybe a 1500 til it is smooth is it possible to make the paint look smooth? No matter how I tried I wasn't able to take a pic of it my camera isn't that sensitive sorry guys
Ace-Garageguy Posted October 20, 2013 Posted October 20, 2013 (edited) The short answer is yes, it should work fine if there's enough paint on the model. Like you say, go slow, and be very careful on edges and high spots. The rest of the answer is that all kinds of problems can crop up, like paint deciding to flake off, or rings showing up as you sand through successive layers of paint. The only way to know for sure if it will work is to try it. Edited October 20, 2013 by Ace-Garageguy
weasel Posted October 21, 2013 Posted October 21, 2013 how about just a light sanding then some clear to 'smooth' it out... then more clear, then sand again...
