james460 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Actually I think the Dan Gurney version of the Tally did have a Mustang style wing in the Back. So you're not off at all installing the wing.
freakshow12 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The gurney car was a cyclone spoiler. And there was one talladega that was not presidential blue, royal maroon or white. It was built for bunkie Knudsen. It was yellow with white bucket seat interior with console shifted auto and air conditioning. I have a few articles on it and will be replicating that particular car
rasafyff Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 FYI Ray, if you are doing it stock, it came in only 3 colors, black, maroon and presidential blue, a dark metallic blue. The very first production Talladega was Wimbleton White.
cobraman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 I have to search for a photo of one with a wing. Also I notice that not only is the nose piece too wide the grill/bumper is too wide to fit into the recess of the nose piece. Fun,fun, fun.
slusher Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Ray I found a merc and a talladega so I would use one from a 71 AMT Duster...
james460 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Actually I believe Gurney's was a Tally and Cale's was a SpoilerII
cobraman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 Thanks for the photos Carl. I happen to have a spoiler like that but my mind is set on doing the wing. More of a "what if" build than trying to duplicate one that was.
Jeremy Jon Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 That white & blue version, with wing, looks great! Looking forward to seeing what you end up deciding upon Ray!
freakshow12 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Incorrect. Both were cyclones. And black was not a talladega color
freakshow12 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 The ford program happened so fast because the wing cars were kicking butt that ford didn't play with special versions for street models. They built a quick aero pkg on the cheap to please NASCAR. That's why they were all the same and no options. While this was happening ford needed to build street cars to get the boss 9 legal to go in said Torino. Since mustangs way outsold muscle torinos
freakshow12 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) The mustang got the boss 429. It was a crazy time when the aero wars started Mercury on the other hand had time to play with the special versions Edited December 10, 2013 by freakshow12
Guest Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 (edited) The very first production Talladega was Wimbleton White. you are correct, I should have said 3 colors and included that one, not black. Edited December 10, 2013 by midnightprowler
Guest Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 Incorrect. Both were cyclones. And black was not a talladega coloryou are correct sir. My bad.
freakshow12 Posted December 10, 2013 Posted December 10, 2013 No biggie. These cars were thrown together so fast in 69 that they are sort of a red headed stepchild. Most people don't even know they exist lol
cobraman Posted December 10, 2013 Author Posted December 10, 2013 I was able to get the front end on and molded to the body and primed. Still needs a bit of finishing but it's looking pretty good. Next I need to do some modifying to get the grill/bumper to fit. It is pretty wide to fit as it should. Guest Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 I think I would put the wing about 1 real inch further back. Seems a bit too far forward. JMO, not that it matters, lol.
cobraman Posted December 11, 2013 Author Posted December 11, 2013 Yes, the wing will go farther back for sure !
rv1963 Posted December 11, 2013 Posted December 11, 2013 looks good so far Ray, I kinda like the rear wing.
cobraman Posted December 13, 2013 Author Posted December 13, 2013 Having trouble with photos ..... again !
