Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 13, 2013 Posted December 13, 2013 I bought a 61 impala kit last month and decided to work on it and messed up the body beyond repair... No receipt, I went to the store I bought it from and was able to replace it with a kit of the same price... So I bought a Revell Monogram Plymouth Roadrunner.... First thing I did was put the hood filler on and fill it in with glue and kicker... Next I stripped the chrome from most of the engine parts and wheels... Using some Goodyear tires from a 69 Olds kit, I had to trim the wheels to fit flush and the wheel backs had to be trimmed down to fit... Engine is started and the front suspension has been glued in... I'm wanting to build this as a weathered restoration in progress build... Here is where I am at so far...
slusher Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Should be a cool project James, looking forward to it...
jrherald420 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Pre fit the grill and check the gap around the fender above the headlights (more in the top corners). I had a huge gap on the last 2 ive done. It will need to be filled or it will be very noticable.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 14, 2013 Author Posted December 14, 2013 Thanks Carl .. James! thanks man... I will definitely be checking the fitment of the grill and other parts... I know the tail light panel will need some filling becuase there is a noticeable gap...
jrherald420 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 Yup, other than that its a good kit. Ive got another one in the stash to build.
PappyD340 Posted December 14, 2013 Posted December 14, 2013 NICE start James, I love the 70 RR bodystyle!!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Got it temporarily sitting on all four tires... I like the look of this, so now I'm confused to hell and back... I really wanted to do a resto in progress car, but now I'm kinda wanting to do a fully restored car.... Decisions decisions.... I'll figure it out soon enough....
jrherald420 Posted December 15, 2013 Posted December 15, 2013 Easy solution, buy another kit and do both! Michaels sent out a 50% off coupon good for today and tomorrow only!!
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 That is a thought... Reason why I try and buy multiples of kits,,.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted December 15, 2013 Author Posted December 15, 2013 Got some work done to the chassis... AND the wheels are painted....
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 It's been a minute, but I've got the body in primer, and the interior tub in paint and flocked... Speakers removed from package tray...
freakshow12 Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Looks cool. May I ask why you filled in the air grabber?
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Actually, I haven't the slightest idea... But I'm not using the hood anymore... Gonna look through the stash and find some decent hood hinges so I can mount those opened...
sak Posted April 25, 2014 Posted April 25, 2014 Don't go with the" restored" look. Not that its a bad idea..but no reputable restoration shop would let it leave with those inner fenders...which are completely incorrect.
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted April 25, 2014 Author Posted April 25, 2014 Got the interior done... Pabst Blue Ribbon... I laugh everytime I hear those words from Blue Velvet...
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted May 27, 2014 Author Posted May 27, 2014 Thanks Stan... I'm back on this and have the body in paint... I'll get some pics up in a few minutes...
Wonderbread Kustomz Posted June 3, 2014 Author Posted June 3, 2014 Been working on this one a little...
