The Creative Explorer Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 This is a project I started in the end of last year, but didn't finished it due to my trip to the USA. I will continue this kit when I arrive in The Netherlands over a bit more than a week. These are some pictures of the process so far. the kit:
ismaelg Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Looking good so far! The F40 is one of my favorite Ferraris. I have one patiently waiting its turn at the bench. Thanks,
simonr Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Hey my friend, awesome work so far. I will keep my eyes on this one! Simón P. Rivera Torres
The Creative Explorer Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Thanks guys! The major mistake that Tamiya did with this kit is to take a street-F40 and add a decal sheet and different wheels. To make a nice replica I have to modify different parts, including modifying the complete interior.
VictorSmalls Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Really great work. Of all the builds you have posted up this one has the best detail work IMO. I will be looking forward to seeing more of your work.
dub Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Ooo ooo! My favorite Ferrari! Great progress so far. When I asked about more builds earlier, I figured you had a few but, WOW! This looks like an excellent kit. Any big things wrong with it? I keep seeing this one at my LHS and I'm debating on spending the money. I am too green at the hobby for racing decals, but I can stash it away with the others I am holding until I'm ready.
Enzoenvy1 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I totally forgot that I had one of these! I so need to build it strictly OOB. But, I too knew that good ol Tamiya simply changed the wheels and added decals. But, it is a great looking model. good job so far.
The Creative Explorer Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Jonathan; buy the kit. It is wellworth it. The biggest issue with this kit is the hood, which fits quite bad. But not impossible. keep in mind that if you want to make a realistic F40 Competizione, there's a lot of effort needed.
The Creative Explorer Posted December 20, 2007 Author Posted December 20, 2007 And a upload from the most recent work:
935k3 Posted December 21, 2007 Posted December 21, 2007 (edited) Jonathan; buy the kit. It is wellworth it. The biggest issue with this kit is the hood, which fits quite bad. But not impossible. keep in mind that if you want to make a realistic F40 Competizione, there's a lot of effort needed. A cure for the ill fitting rear deck is to remove the pins under the body that fit into the sockets on top of the rear inner fenders, this lets the parts relax and sit better. This causes a misalignment of the air ducts near the rear window in the firewall and they will require some rework. I found this tip on another forum along time ago, I wish I could credit the builder but I cannot find it or remember who it was. Edited December 21, 2007 by 935k3
The Creative Explorer Posted January 13, 2008 Author Posted January 13, 2008 And these are the last of this one too, the car needs some painting-work to do.
Raul_Perez Posted January 13, 2008 Posted January 13, 2008 That's some really nice detail work there, Erik!! It almost makes me want to start building sports cars, again!!
rick6343 Posted January 14, 2008 Posted January 14, 2008 I like it! Do you have a list of all the things you had to modify to make it an accurate racer? When and where did that particular car race?
The Creative Explorer Posted January 14, 2008 Author Posted January 14, 2008 Thanks guys Yes, I found that this car was for sale long times ago, with the right Chassis number. From that website I took all the pictures, which gave me a good reference. The kit itself was just a street-F40 with a few new parts and some decals. Far from accurate.
