Billy Kingsley Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 Hi guys, I took these pictures last night even though I got the order on Friday. I left these parts with him in Toledo and they arrived back to me already. This is a before shot...there are some more though that I got in Toledo which I also had plated! I broke this one when cleaning it up...can barely see where now!
truckman1958kits Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 *************Hi, Is it the photos or is the chrome that rough. Steve
Billy Kingsley Posted November 28, 2007 Author Posted November 28, 2007 Textured items chrome plate with a chrome texture...which is expected, and the way it's SUPPOSED to be.
CAL Posted November 28, 2007 Posted November 28, 2007 (edited) what was that last thing... looked like road kill. Yeah, sheesh I wish I could remember his name, I lived right down the street from him... ten years ago or so. Is he still on Ravenswood? Never even knew he did model chrome until right before I moved to Colorado. He does good work. Edited November 28, 2007 by CAL

Jairus Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Okay Billy I gott'a ask.... Why chrome plate the roadkill???
Enzoenvy1 Posted December 1, 2007 Posted December 1, 2007 Okay Billy I gott'a ask.... Why chrome plate the roadkill??? I gotta ask why period? Before retort is thrown let me ask this. Is this real chrome as in chromium dipped copper plated parts or something? Did you have plastic chromed like the usual process or is there something I am missing in this year of 2007? Can I believe that I do recall hearing about a new process that chromes anything you want? I think I might have seen this done on a balloon. Is this easier than AlCad and a clear?
Green Duster Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 I had Chrome Tech do some stuff for me a couple years back. Local company for me About 4 hours south of me. They do great work. They did some bumpers and grilles. I recomend them .

Billy Kingsley Posted December 2, 2007 Author Posted December 2, 2007 It's for a secret project Jairus...I can't tell you yet...Nobody knows yet (Except the guy that printed the decals for me)...I HOPE that everybody will know by NNL East time, depending on how much progress I can make by then...I have to decide a few things before I can make progress though!!
Paul Payne Posted December 2, 2007 Posted December 2, 2007 True chrome plating relies on electrical current and a bath of metallic chemicals to deposit metal on metal. Triple chrome plating is actually 3 metals- a layer of copper, a layer of nickel (which provides the bright shine), and a layer of chromium, which does't tarnish and is very hard. Before chrome plating, they stopped at the nickel, but it required polishing. The chromium layer is only a few atoms thick, and I don't think the other metal layers are much thicker. Chrome parts in kits are chromed using aluminum powder and static electricity called vacuum metalizing. I don't know which process Chrome-Tech uses, does anyone know? By the way, Billy, I will be at NNL East, and I will be looking for chrome roadkill!
