Newbs99 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 Alright, so this is gonna be my next build...a revel charger. I'm going to paint it Testors Fiery Orange and havn't decided yet if I'm going to make the roof vinyl or just leave it the orange. Anyway, I'll keep updated. -Newbs99
Volvoman Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 I have just bought a Revell of Germany '68 Dodge Charger RT 2n1 (stock or street) and am wondering if its the same kit?? I will post a picture up if you need to see it. I will certainly be watching this thread though and the best of luck with your build.
Shelby 427 1965 Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 It's not quite the same kit. I've built both - there's no 426 Hemi in the RoG one, and the decals are different. It does have the optional vented bonnet, though. There's no drag slicks either.
heroncustom Posted December 31, 2013 Posted December 31, 2013 hah looking good but i guess great minds think in color eh! i bought one of these last week and already painted it the feiry red! i shant post mine as to not take away from yours but how funny is the worls sometimes! looking forward to yours (honestly put mine away yesterday) maybe youll end up giving me some ideas lol keep us updated!!
Johnny1973 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Great color choice! What color is the interior going to be?
jrherald420 Posted January 1, 2014 Posted January 1, 2014 Do the top in black. Just wouldnt look right if you left the vinyl roof body color. I have 3 for these kits to build this year. I have all ready built one of them as a drag car but im thinking 2 of them will be built stock then another drag car but with the trunk and doors cut open.
Newbs99 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 I havn't even thought about the interior yet John. And jrherald420, I am planning on using a trick of the roof that I'm almost certain that I found on this forum. It is where you spray spray adhesive on the roof( make sure to block off the rest of the body) and give it several coats. Then, apply your flat black (or gloss) over the adhesive. This will give you the look and feel of a scale vinyl roof. Anyway, I'm about to pos more. -Newbs99
Newbs99 Posted January 4, 2014 Author Posted January 4, 2014 Alright, so I haven't come far since my first post over this build. Here is my progress. I'm painting the motor as the stock box art picture. With this 57 cent miracle At least I've gotten the little stand built:) It holds the other race motor that this kit came with. Anyway, Expect more soon. -Newbs99
jaydar Posted January 4, 2014 Posted January 4, 2014 I am glad you posted pix. I thought only the '69 Charger came with a vinyl roof. Huh! Thanks, Joe.
Mopar - D Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Bo I've used masking tape to get the vinyl top texture and you can also create the over lap joints like the 1:1. Good luck with your build looking forward to see some more pictures of your progress.
Wade Hoskins Posted January 5, 2014 Posted January 5, 2014 Do the top in black. Just wouldnt look right if you left the vinyl roof body color. I have 3 for these kits to build this year. I have all ready built one of them as a drag car but im thinking 2 of them will be built stock then another drag car but with the trunk and doors cut open. The body on the 68 doesn't have the vinyl top texture molded on it.
Newbs99 Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 Well, however the paint goes, I want it to have a vinyl top. This is my progress so far to complete this ambition. The edges are rough, but I'll fix them later after the orange lacquer.anyway... After MANY coats, I finally got what I wanted. capturedvideo.MOV I'll post more soon, -Newbs99
Newbs99 Posted January 12, 2014 Author Posted January 12, 2014 Alright, so I'd been working day and night since that last post to make it to ModelCon. I finished it up Yesterday afternoon and it was taken to the show. Anyway, I ended up winning silver for my age range. Here are a few pictures while it was still being built and how it looks today. The trim around the outside was painted with a toothpick which didn't do well to compliment it. The last couple pictures are of how the judges saw it. Anyway thanks for tagging along, -Newbs99
jrherald420 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Hmm i didnt see it at the show. What time did you get there?
JTalmage Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 jrherald420..... did you used to have a Lincoln Mark VIII??? I swear I remember your username from LincolnvsCadillac.com....
jrherald420 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 jrherald420..... did you used to have a Lincoln Mark VIII??? I swear I remember your username from LincolnvsCadillac.com.... Yes i did, im still on there i just dont post anymore.
JTalmage Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Yeah last I remember you got yourself a foxbody coupe! I'm Stangman on there, but that username was taken on here. Funny how we ran into each other on a completely different forum. lol
jrherald420 Posted January 13, 2014 Posted January 13, 2014 Thats funny, i think ive sold you Mark VIII parts before. The coupe was many cars ago! Wish i still had it and the Lincoln.
Newbs99 Posted January 14, 2014 Author Posted January 14, 2014 Jrherald420 I was there around 3 Saturday, but I talked them into judging it even though I was late. I also won silver. Sorry I didn't post any more 'build' pictures and posts, but I was clenched on time. Anyway, here's what I picked up while I was there. A MiniCraft Corsair An Original AMT Pearless Logging Trailer ( I know it looks rough, but everything is there and I'd like to know what that box has seen ) And a Monogram 31 Rolls-Royce and 30 Ford Coupe ( Amazing ) And I stole it all for $30. Anyway, expect to see something new soon. -Newbs99
jrherald420 Posted January 15, 2014 Posted January 15, 2014 We left at 3:15 ish, i didn't got back to the show section after judging started. Bet you loved staying till 7pm for awards. Funny thing about that trailer, my buddy bought it as a package deal and sold it to the guy with the car booth for 5 bucks. Its pretty rough.
Newbs99 Posted January 15, 2014 Author Posted January 15, 2014 (edited) Well, I guess that one man's junk is another man's treasure. I love rough looking projects because it keeps the standard set low enough so that when you finish it, it will even look better than it normally would. Anyway, I asked him to sell the trailer when I found it under the table and if you look at it one way, he kind of threw it in there in the end. And your buddy must like that rd paint. On another note, you should see it soon. Thanks -Newbs99 And I guess getting there sooo late made the time fly by because we walked out at about 6:40 like you said. I thought it would be wrapped up at 4:00. Edited January 15, 2014 by Newbs99
slusher Posted January 16, 2014 Posted January 16, 2014 Nice progress on the charger and love the color choice...
