RatRod Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 (edited) Being an avid Harley collector, and a plastic menace.....I'm off!!! I have started with several frame modifications, one being the removal of the dip in the rear frame, and the other was shortening the front down tubes, and arching the back bone. I then set the rake to fit a white metal springer I had. And....Here's a little more progress in the mock up stage. The springer is set up, I did a pie cut on the tank, and shortened the height, the rear fender was cut to the desired length, and the sides were cut down. I scratch built the handlebars with a vintage look. I still have more to do before paint....Rear fender mounts, custom exhaust, seat springs, etc. More to come, when more gets done!!! James2 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 Looks good, but if ya really want the vintage look, I'd short'n up that tank some, kinda like a stock peanut tank! Just a thought it's your build... I like the frame work!
novadose71 Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 I'm liking the lines on that bike. Looks great so far.
MikeMc Posted November 29, 2007 Posted November 29, 2007 good start with the frame.a bobber should have a shovel or better yet a pan. I might have a 80 " shovelhead kit think its the fxe low rider, not sure of manufacture it is a jap kit complete (no mini bike) send me e mail
RatRod Posted November 29, 2007 Author Posted November 29, 2007 Thanks for the input!!! As far as the tank, based on a 1927 racer, the tank was long and narrow. I started with a reshaped small tank, but it wasn't what I wanted for this particular build. Mike, the key here is "vintage style" this is a modern bike built with that old school racer look. I have tons of the old Imai Harleys, but one problem with Revells new kits is the scale seems more like 1/11, just a tad bigger than 1/12. The older shovel looks kinda small in this frame. I might reshape the heads a bit to resemble a pan for the effect though!!!

Jefbo Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Very Nice! I have got to get off my butt and build a 1/25 bike.
ramonesblues Posted November 30, 2007 Posted November 30, 2007 Finally, someone knows what a real bobber is.i would have made a set of fat bob tanks, but that is just me.Great looking so far.
RatRod Posted December 7, 2007 Author Posted December 7, 2007 Getting back on track with this one!!! Here are a couple shots for an update.....I finally came up with an exhaust system, made the seat springs & mount, built a new oil tank, and I'm almost finished building a carb w/vintage scoop. Just about ready to get everything dechromed & painted ready for final detailing and assembly!!! Be patient, you'll see it soon Under Glass!!!
Raul_Perez Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 John, I really like the styling, especially the springer front-end!! The seat springs are a nice touch. Can't wait to see the finished model!!
Dr. Cranky Posted December 7, 2007 Posted December 7, 2007 Wow, I like it. Just the way it is . . . I can't wait to see it painted and detailed . . . SWEET!!!
RatRod Posted December 9, 2007 Author Posted December 9, 2007 Well, here's a peek at the finished carb I built, along with the stack w/screen. Kinda gives it a little more vintage look. I also put a slight bend in some aluminum tubing, then split it, shaped it, and made a heat shield for the exhaust. Still sweatin' the small stuff!!! (Oh and doing "honey-do's"...lol.)
