Skydime Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 Title pretty much sums it up. I would just like to know if anyone has an idea which kit or kits (not resin, packaged kits like Revell or Round 2) has/have the best LS1 from the 1998ish 1:1 era. Only thing I can think of is a Camaro or Firebird kit but, which ones and are these the best/only option?
hgbben Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 I believe both the Revell Camaro and Firebird Have the exact same engine/trans.
Skydime Posted January 10, 2014 Author Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Matthijs, do you know if the Corvette has a better LS1 than the Camaro/Firebird kits? I am trying to replicate, as close as I can, the LS1 in Paul Walker's 67 Nova built by Year One's Ghostworks. EDIT: After the suggestion of Matthijs, I hit the bay to check for kits. It turns up that I would probably be best using the Revell 98 Corvette Roadster kit (which is kind of a let down considering I used to have this kit and it got demolished). Thanks for the replies Ben and Matthijs. Edited January 10, 2014 by Skydime
Exotics_Builder Posted January 10, 2014 Posted January 10, 2014 (edited) Based on your photo above, the 2002 Camaro from Revell has an LS1 with the correct forward intake, but has no shrouds for the coil packs. It also has an attached transmission (which I beleive is a manual as I don't have that particular kit). The LS1 in the C5 Corvette does have the coil pack shrouds, but no attached transmission as the Corvettes come with transaxles. I would expect that Revell used a common design for all their LS engines shared across the kits just like their BB Chevy engine. Neither has the intake air tube, so you would have to craft that as well as adapt to the intake. The 2010 Camaro has a LS engine with automatic transmission but, again, no coil pack shroud like the picture. Instead it has a shrould over the manifold and coil packs which is unique to the car. This kit has an intake air tube but it snakes to the driver side rather than the passenger side and ends in an airbox. HTH. Gerry Edited January 10, 2014 by Exotics_Builder
Skydime Posted January 11, 2014 Author Posted January 11, 2014 (edited) Thanks for that detailed answer Gerry. The tranny and the intake tubes aren't that big of an issue at this point. I just need to get the coil pack shrouds and the intake correct at this point. I am pretty sure I have the correct, or very similar, intake somewhere. So, if I do, I think the Vette kit will do very nicely. If not, I guess I'll be buying both. Edited January 11, 2014 by Skydime

Not all kit instructions are there, but it may help you decide. http://www.revell.com/support/instructions.html
