I started this in mid November. My original plan was an '03 Peterbilt 357-123 heavy tractor for Schlumberger, it was to be white with a blue frame. All was as-planned until the red Italeri plastic leached through the BIN sealer, white top coat and into the clear. I ended up with a pink cab. So I decided to build a late 80's Schlumberger unit, back when they were orange and black.

I scratchbuilt the hood and fenders.

The the frame rails and some crossmembers were scratchbuilt.

The pump box body was scratchbuilt from flat plastic.

The tires are resin from Aitruckmodels.com

Almost finished - just awaiting the body.

The mudflap logos are from www.whitefangmodel.com in Australia.

I made the lettering on the doors using MS Word and printing the lettering on Bare Metal Foil

clear decal paper for inkjet printers.

The last flat fender Peterbilt was built in '03.

With that said, several oil field truck outfitters have taken fiberglass hooded 357 SBFA's and cut off the fenders and installed big flat frame mounted fenders to cover the big off road tires. An interesting look.

Waukesha County Wisconsin did something similar with 357 fiberglass hooded trucks in the late 90s, I built one from a 377 kit last year.

By the way, are the Peterbilt 365 or 367 available with flat fenders like the 353 or 357?

Tim,

Another great looking truck. Very interesting build, the orange looks well and suits the Pete. I'm always impressed with your use of Bare Metal Foil. I'd love to know how to apply it correctly? It seems to bring out the details like the door surrounds superbly.

Look forward to your next build.

Very Nice Looking Pete. I used to work for Schlumberger in south Louisiana ( Sounds like Slumberjay ) back in the eighties. Black and Orange must have got burned into the brain somehow. The old halloween trucks were all over the roads down here for a long time.
