1st truck kit recommendation

Looking for advice on which of my kits would be a good 1st truck kit. Got back into model building last year after a long layoff. I still picked up kits during the layoff. I have done a few cars last year and have average skills. Some of what I have in stock is Revell Aeromax, AMT T600 and Pete 359 daycab and Italeri Pete 379 and Western Star. Trucks are really what I want to work on. Thanks.

of those, I've only done a pete 359 with a sleeper, but I say jump in, and have fun. they all seem to have their own little issues, so bust one open and have at it

I have not tried it myself but just about everyone, including the pros, that have messed with the AMT T600 has horror stories. AMT apparently hodge podged it from their w900 kit of the 70's. REALLY bad kit that takes a huge deal of work to get it right.

Oddly, the Revell Aeromax kit was my first Italeri/Revell kit....Compared to AMT kits, Italeris are Awesome....They build up pretty nice, and most everything fits like it's supposed to.....The Aeromax is, actually quite accurate.....I highly recommend it, but take your time.....And use liquid cement....Works much better than tube glue for these models.....The Pete 378 has a lot of chrome, but is also a Great kit........But the Revell Peterbilt 359 and Kenworth W900 are excellent kits to start with and very inexpensive....At $20 a kit, either one would be a great practice kit.....

I agree. I'm doing a 1/32 monogram mack r600 at the moment. Great little kit but to detail the chrome work (mack script etc) and do the window linings to make it look good is the difficult thing. The amt t600 would be ok but the multi piece sleeper could raise some problems. Multi piece cabs in my opinion are the worst element of italeri model trucks.

Thanks for the advice. Going to work on the Aeromax. What engine did they use? Did not see a paint color specified.

Its the Cummins NTC400 , that's the same engine in the Italeri Aeromax . It should be Beige like Testors Model Master : FS 33722 Modern Desert Sand
