ERIK88 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 Hi, I am going to use duplicolor red metallic , I was wondering if primer as a base is fine? Or do I need primer, a coat of silver, then the metallic paint? Or instead of silver metallizer? And what does metallizer do?
slusher Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 With Duplicolor you need a primer. You can still use silver, gold, white, or black under it depends on what look your going for..
jrherald420 Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 And what does metallizer do? Its represents different kinds of metals, a buffing metallizer allows you to buff or rub the paint once it dries to better show the metals finish, you can have a dull finish or buff it to a "polished metal" finish. Once you get the look you were after you have to spray the part with a finish coat to seal the paint to keep it from rubbing off.
ERIK88 Posted February 3, 2014 Author Posted February 3, 2014 Thanks for the metallizer info, well the paint is duplicolor red / metal specks . I think silver base sounds good for that color. thanks
Jantrix Posted February 3, 2014 Posted February 3, 2014 I have used Krylon primers under Duplicolor with no issues, but you definitely need it. Prime completely, inside and out every nook and cranny.
