Aukoue
I'm working on a purple Aventador and I really want it to have black rims. The ones I have are kinda chrome-y looking. Can I spray paint them black or is the paint going to come off? I want some advice before I start working on it. Thank you.
1930fordpickup
I think if you just paint them the paint may flake off. Put them in the paint stripper ( purple power, or awesome cleaner) and paint away.
disabled modeler
I agree with Andy...strip the plating off and clean well then just spray the color of paint you want on them...usually the plating or look like plating will come off very easily. Aukoue
Do you guys recommend any particular, inexpensive paint strippers?
Ace-Garageguy
If you want quality results, I'd seriously recommend stripping the chrome with EasyOff Oven Cleaner spray...the toxic smelly kind. It cuts clear down to the base plastic, which some of the other "milder" strippers don't. It works every time. Wear rubber gloves and don't get it in your eyes. Then, if you REALLY want a nice job, finish up your prep by scrubbing your stripped wheels with Comet, hot water and a toothbrush. It gets all of the remaining residue off and lightly scuffs the nooks and crannies to let the paint stick and flow a little better. Yes it's a little work, and the beautiful results I get are worth it.
