chris02719 Posted July 2, 2015 Posted July 2, 2015 Testors flat white being an enamel paint won't work on vinyl tires which might explain the poor coverage.

Mike_G Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 What I really need are some professional stencils with self adhesive backing! Get a compass cutter and you can make them yourself in any size you want Then just use white primer (not high-build) from a spraycan
Mike Chernecki Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 I have done this many times and works great every time. I used the same template and Duplicolor white primer, 20 years later and they still look great.
fseva Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 (edited) Get a compass cutter and you can make them yourself in any size you want... Good idea! I will definitely look into getting a compass cutter - this should eliminate the need to have multiple circle cutting templates! Thanks! Now, all we have to come up with is a good way of inserting wheels without ruining great paint jobs! Edited July 3, 2015 by fseva
mike 51 Posted July 3, 2015 Posted July 3, 2015 "Now, all we have to come up with is a good way of inserting wheels without ruining great paint jobs!" Planning ahead almost always helps.... Pre-fitting the wheels to make sure they fit easily should do the trick. (and some wheels can be fitted from the backside of the tire as well).
fseva Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Just for your information, I found out today that wide whitewalls were discontinued by all manufacturers in 1961!
fseva Posted July 14, 2015 Posted July 14, 2015 Get a compass cutter and you can make them yourself in any size you want. OK - I received my compass cutter and put 2 strips of Tamiya tape overlapping on a nice clean surface. I was able to scribe pretty near perfect circles. However, even though my blackwalls had a nice line where I wanted to place the tape, no matter how hard I tried, I could not get the template to follow the guideline, and even a micrometer off and I could see the errors so easily that I have decided to use AMT whitewalls instead (which is what I had been using before this discussion).
