bobthehobbyguy Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Nice job. Would you give some more details on the issues you had with the kit?
AZ Boy Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Absolutely Bob..and thanks for your comment. The main issues I ran into are the engine mounting to the chassis, and the driver's cockpit / floor pan. The floor pan on mine should've been a little further set back on the chassis before I glued it into place. As a result, the engine mounting plate (attached to the engine) didn't fit into the mounting grooves on the chassis. Therefore, the engine actually sits just a tad forward of where it should be which could've presented fit issues with the interior tinwork and of course, the body. Aaron
gtx6970 Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Well done, I've done several of the Polar LIghts cars. And even though they can be a tad tempermental to build. They sure do make for a nice looking shelf piece.
AZ Boy Posted March 30, 2014 Author Posted March 30, 2014 Thanks Bill! I agree totally with you, and at least I'll know what to watch for the next time around.
F/CNUT Posted March 30, 2014 Posted March 30, 2014 Aaron, excellent job. love the paint job. Yes bring it to show along with your Raici & Wise Vega. I would like to both of them.
Hondo Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 An outstanding Charger, Aaron. It sits perfect. Great job on it as we all have come to expect from you !! Always thought it was interesting that that car had a "solid" windshield and no air inlet per se for the blower. But, a lot changed as the evolution progressed..... Got a few old PL kit. Need to get up enough nerve to crack one open. Again. a great looking build, my friend !!
AZ Boy Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Steve and Jim - thanks VERY much! You know I hold both of you in high esteem when it comes to funny car builds, so your compliments are much appreciated! Aaron
Fun_E_Car Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Very nice. I hope mine looks that good whenever I get around to building it. --Dave
Burnout Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Spectacular looking F/C! Very nice work. I actually got to see this car run when I was a kid. Good memories for sure.
AZ Boy Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thanks Ken! I was a regular (spectator, that is!) at US 30, but my memories are a little fuzzy when it comes to this car. I remember Norm's Challenger much clearer than this car.
RANDY L Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Great build on fiddily kit What colors did you use on the body Randy Ludi
AZ Boy Posted March 31, 2014 Author Posted March 31, 2014 Thank you Randy. I used Tamiya silver as an undercoat, and their clear red on top.
bogger44 Posted April 4, 2014 Posted April 4, 2014 You sure did a great job, as it looks amazing. I've pulled this kit out of the stash only to put it back far too many times. This might just be the inspiration I need to actually start it, maybe sometime this year. Thanks for mentioning the issues you faced with this kit, I'll definitely keep them in mind.
AZ Boy Posted April 4, 2014 Author Posted April 4, 2014 Thanks Tony! Like I said, it's just a first effort with these kits, and I'm sure the next one will be much more hassle-free after this one.
sflam123 Posted April 7, 2014 Posted April 7, 2014 Great job on what can be a "finicky" build. Love the scratchbuilt fuel tank. Beautiful work all around! Steve
