Mizozuman2 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Okay, so I'm not sure on the whole which paints can go under/over other's. But I have Dupli-Color Spray paint on a body, and wasn't sure if Tamiya Clear would be okay to spray over it. I know some kinds of paints don't mix well with others when sprayed.
charlie8575 Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 Tamiya clear MIGHT be okay. It can be rather hot, and can even bother lacquers. I'd try a little on some sprue first to see what happens. If that's TS-13 clear in the spray can, treat it like gold. That stuff is next to impossible to get in the U.S. anymore due to some bureaucrat. Charlie Larkin

I use AB a lot. I'm not against Spray Paint though. This body I've got painted right now is looking good. Just needs more shine. But thanks for the info. I think I'll just wait till I head to Wally World again and pick up a can of clear there. I hear Testor's clear is good. Has anyone used it? My Wal-Mart has their Model car aisle back.
Modelmartin Posted March 31, 2014 Posted March 31, 2014 I should think your Tamiya clear would be fine over the duplicolor especially if it is the acrylic in the jar. Their lacquer should be ok if you build up a few dust coats and then a final wet coat.
ZTony8 Posted April 1, 2014 Posted April 1, 2014 I didn't have great luck putting TS-13 over Duplicolor. It didn't seem to have great gloss.Maybe it was just me or maybe there's some chemical incompatatbility(?). Testor One Coat(non one coat) clear is milder than TS-13 and doesn't seem to harm decals like TS-13 did.I never tried Testor clear over Duplicolor.
