ismaelg Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Hello, Proud papa moment: It is every modeler's dream to have somebody to pass the torch on. My son is only 7 and he has done a few pre-painted diecast models. But like many other kids his age, he is crazy about dinosaurs. So Santa got him 2 Tamiya 1/35 dinos. Yesterday he wanted to work on it and off we went to the workbench. As much as I was tempted to putty the seams and airbrush some colors, he wanted to do it himself. He only asked for help with the glue to prevent a messy spill. In about an hour he was done and very proud. He wants to paint it so I will let him use the acrylics later. In the process he made 2 important comments: 1: "This is fun" 2:"This is not as easy as I thought" so he is getting an appreciation for craftsmanship. Yes I'm proud More pics here hmm, now I want to build one myself Thanks,
JHDrew Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Nice! His smile says it all and I needed a good smile today too.
mr moto Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That is really cool! You deserve to be as proud as you can be. And it sure brings back memories of my early days discovering modeling. You know, it's NOT as easy as it looks! Your son has already discovered one of the basic laws of modeling. Keep up the good work. It looks like you're building something that's better than little cars. BTW, it's cool that the dino is 1/35 scale. Your son could build some military vehicles and make a monster movie scene!
ajulia Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Hello there friend! Looking at his excited face makes you realize thats what its all about! Looks like he enjoyed every bit!Keep on wit the keepin on! Peace Ajulia
MoparMarc Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 Ah yes I know the look on his face........all 3 of my kids started building between about 4 and 6 years old and they loved it. Now my 17 yr old hasn't built anything in a while but I remember not building much of anything at that age either but something tells me she will once she settles down. Right now my 10 yr old is building a diecast Challenger and my little 6 yr old girl wanting to build another one as well so they are hooked.
simonr Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 (edited) Hey Ismael good for both of you guys!...If he follows all the knowledments of a good teacher as I can bet you're to him, he will enjoy this the most. I remember that last may I did the same thing with my 8 year son, and actually with the same model. Congratulations, Marcos! Ahora pa'la selva a comer gente...jejejeje! Simón P. Enzoenvy1 Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That is so cool Ismael! I love to see this happening, and good choice for the subject. Triceratops was my favorite as a kid. All it needs is some comp yellow and a Corvette flag. Voila!!!! lol I bought my son the Revell snap kit Corvette a year ago and we built it together. Was an awesome time. He lives with his Mom and stepdad out of state now so I can't do this anymore. But he sure does love cars thanks to my influences.
Raul_Perez Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 GREAT JOB!! Keep up the GREAT work!! How is he doing on the next one?
Andy Wyatt Posted December 27, 2007 Posted December 27, 2007 That is very cool! Tell him to keep up the great work! I remember when I was about his age I built the Aurora Prehistoric Scenes kits...the Wooly Mammoth and the Saber-toothed Tiger and the cavemen...might have to get me one of those Tamiya dino kits!
