majel Posted April 19, 2014 Posted April 19, 2014 (edited) Looking to build the 1/16th AMT 55 Nomad for my wife (she loves wagons). Plan on using Scalefinishes glacier blue over skyline blue. Thinking about using a TDR small block chevy engine and headers. Has anyone built this model or used the TDR products, and if so any opinions or recommendations? Also, are there any other 1/16th scale small block chevy engines that are better than the one in the AMT kit that could be used instead of using the TDR engine? Edited April 19, 2014 by majel

The Revell 1/16 '34 Ford Coupe or Phaeton's block is the best in kit form IMHO. The TH-350 (I think) trans is nicely detailed with a separate pan, though the way the engine's oil pan and the lower 1/3 of the bellhousing area of the trans housing is a bit odd in how it's molded. It's not perfect, but it's the best starting point IMO, and far better than the AMT, Revell ('87 IROC-Z), or the Lindberg Bullhorn T's SBC...though the latter has some very nice Stromberg carbs and a matching intake manifold.
