In tribute to the Santa angle of this evening, didn't think of it until a short time ago, but a little research revealed that the Fred Astaire version for the 1970 TV special of the same name is only a decades-later cover of the original performer. Alan Jackson cover here:

How about a cover version of an extremely obscure song?

Les Barker was a British humorist and poet who just recently passed away.

Back in the 1990s I saw a performance of his at a house concert.  I still have two books I purchased then of his writings.  He did not sing or play an instrument, but his songs were covered by well-known folk musicians over the years.  Here Tom Paxton performs Les' parody of the old traditional song "Will The Circle Be Unbroken".  There are also numerous videos on YT of Les himself reading his quite often humorous poetry.
