LDO Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 (edited) A couple of seasons ago, I was watching the first new episode in a long time. Before Jeremy Clarkson could say "Tonight!", I shouted it myself. My dog, who thinks the only reason to get excited is a squirrel in the back yard, ran to the door, barking. Fast forward a year or so...she heard the theme music and started barking like crazy. She NEEDED to go outside NOW! Yeah, of course I crank the theme music once in a while <grin>. Funny dog. Funny what they remember/associate with memories. Edited May 20, 2014 by LDO
Tom Geiger Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 I work from home a lot and do a lot of teleconferences at my kitchen table. This opens up into my den where my dog Ted is usually snoozing on a couch. He just lies there all day with the various conferences and voices until my co-worker Andrew speaks. He has a British accent and is a bit loud, so every time he speaks Ted jumps up and starts barking.
High octane Posted May 20, 2014 Posted May 20, 2014 That's one reason why I don't have a dog. I've worked on noisy construction jobs for 35+ years and I like it quiet most of the time. When I drove home from work, I wouldn't even play the radio as I've had enough noise for one day.
Tom Geiger Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 When I drove home from work, I wouldn't even play the radio as I've had enough noise for one day. I haven't had a radio in my Geo Tracker in five years. It stopped working. And two years ago I had it parked in a Philadelphia parking garage and someone stole it. Ha! I just laughed. They stole a broken stereo! I don't miss it. Driving by myself is my quiet time.
Agent G Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 Rarely, if ever, do I play the radio during my commute. I will play certain cd's on a roadtrip, but mostly I like quiet. Funny story. I'm on my motorcycle following my brother somewhere in Kansas. He has his wife with him, I'm solo and riding behind. Neal is on a brand new Gold Wing with all the bells and whistles stereo, tape deck, intercom, you name it that garbage barge had it all. Suddenly I see my sister in law haul off and smack my bro in the helmet. He hastily exits the freeway and pulls into a gas station. When I asked he sheepishly says he put the intercom on "mute" many miles back and didn't hear the Mrs. request a potty break. Ahhhh yes, peace and quiet. I took one of my wives on a bike trip exactly once. G
sjordan2 Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 (edited) Oddly, my dog quiets down whenever I put on a Mark Knopfler album. Seems to work. Edited May 21, 2014 by sjordan2
Agent G Posted May 21, 2014 Posted May 21, 2014 I quiet down when MrsG puts food on the table................................ G
FASTBACK340 Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 That's one reason why I don't have a dog. I've worked on noisy construction jobs for 35+ years and I like it quiet most of the time. When I drove home from work, I wouldn't even play the radio as I've had enough noise for one day. Studies have proven that pet ownership is therapeutic and calming. I find my dog the least stressful or obnoxious thing in my life. And I work in a noisy automotive environment all day long. But to each their own. Back on-topic: Mine barks at the TV when ever a commercial has a doorbell ring. Then he looks at us, as if he's embarrassed….
High octane Posted May 24, 2014 Posted May 24, 2014 John, I do agree with you that pet ownership is a very rewarding lifetime experience, but it's not for everyone. Maybe growing up in the city and living in an apartment had a lot to do with it for me.
