ajulia Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 Hello all! For a christmas gift this year O' las year! I got the " Cars of the Fifties" book by The Auto Editors of Consumer guide. It shows all the cars manufactured in that decade showing original conditions' - awesome pics of the cars. Nothing struck me as hard as the convertible 53' packard carribean. Would love to have that on the shelf. Anyone know if this kit is available. Thanks in advance. Peace AJulia
Zoom Zoom Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 The Modelhaus has a very nice curbside '53 Caribbean. It's $85, but it's the only game in town. If I have any gripe about the kit, it's that it doesn't come w/an uptop option (that's just a personal thing, not a knock on the model). Otherwise it's superb. I've had one for several years, haven't had a chance to build it, but I've seen them built and they look fantastic when finished.
Harry P. Posted January 3, 2008 Posted January 3, 2008 (edited) I have that book too, and I love it. As far as model Caribbeans, I think that Danbury Mint has one. It's not a kit, obviously, but a spectacular model nonetheless. On second thought, it may be Franklin Mint instead. Edited January 3, 2008 by harrypri

The Modelhaus kit of the '53 features the original Caribbean styling; simpler and more subdued/elegant than the flashier later-model one. A group of us got to ride in a metallic green '53 Caribbean at the Packard Museum in Dayton Ohio a few years back on our return trip south from Toledo; the caretaker was moving it from one part of the museum into another building and invited us to ride along. A short trip around the block, but it was fun with the top down. One of those rides you never forget
