Wildrice Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 I'm building a couple Tamiya WRC cars. Starting applying decals using Micro Sol and it wants to eat the decal. Is there something else I can use? I used Micro Sol on my Slixx decals with no problems. Any and all help is appreciated.
Aaronw Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Are you sure its eating the decal? Sometimes that stuff makes the decals get all bubbly but then hey settle down nice and smooth. Scared the heck out of me the first time I had that happen, but it was fine in the end.
Scooby Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 Could be the decals. Some decals are not compatible with solvents.
935k3 Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 DO NOT use solvents on Tamiya Decals, on any of their modern kits. Try pressing down the decal with a hot damp clotrh(Q-tip for small areas). It sets instantly and conforms without any wrinkles. If you have any trouble getting decals to stick apply a white clear-drying glue such as Microscale Krystal Klear under them. I keep a small pot of hot(not boiling)water nearby and dip a clothor tissue in it then damp out the excess water on a paper towel.
Brendan Posted January 5, 2008 Posted January 5, 2008 You can use Micro Sol on Tamiiya decals. But the trick is to dilute the Micro Sol with water...should be a 50/50 mixture. I do this all the time with Tamiya decals. The problem is that Tamiya's older decals are not of good quality and there's been so many complaints that Tamiya switched over to Cartograph, which will accept solvents just fine. 935K3's methods will work. Just take your time and don't panic. They may seem ruined, but if you wait you can get them to lay down flat.
Wildrice Posted January 5, 2008 Author Posted January 5, 2008 I will try diluting it. It actually ate the color off of one lage decal I tried to apply. Thanks for the help guys. Thats what I love about this hobby. If you have a problem someone is always willing to help you out.
