Ryanlat22 Posted June 7, 2014 Posted June 7, 2014 I got this kit on sale at hobby lobby so I did not really have a plan for this vehicle when I bought it like I usually do. I am a fan of muscle wagons, but I like them a little lower than their non wagon counterparts. All I have done with this kit so far is mess with the stance and a few tire and wheel options. Right now these are the wheels that I am leaning towards, but this is subject to change depending on my mood and what color I pick. My question is, what colors do you guys think would look good on this wagon? I am not very skilled and only use rattle cans so nothing too fancy... some of my previous thoughts include metallic black, red, GM light blue, and a few others. Sorry for the bad picture quality, but it should give you an idea of where I am at right now. Let me know what you guys think!
unclescott58 Posted June 8, 2014 Posted June 8, 2014 (edited) The next one I plan on doing, is going to be red with a matching red interior. In my mind, that should look pretty good. I did one in gold in the past. Gold on that car didn't sit well with me in the long run. I don't know why. On other cars gold looks great. I've seen real Chevy wagons from the mid-60's in red. And I seem to like combo. So my next one will be red. I've also seen Chevy wagons of that era in GM's light blue. That seems to work pretty well too. The question of course, is what do you like? Sometimes I go on model sites like this and see the choices others have picked for doing theirs. Other times I'll search pictures of a real car to see how they look in a particular color. Recently I found a Johnny Lightning '31 Ford Model A station wagon I liked in a none stock color combination. I'm building AMT's '29 Ford Woody, basically stock. But, I am going to copy the Johnny Lightning color combination. So, look around. And see what you like. Scott Edited June 8, 2014 by unclescott58
Ryanlat22 Posted June 11, 2014 Author Posted June 11, 2014 Thanks for the advice unclescott, after looking at many many pictures online trying to find the right color scheme, I think I have finally found one that I like. I'm not sure about the black roof or what looks like black stripes on the hood, but I like that shade of blue with the black and chrome wheels. I am up in the air if I want to use the white stripe tires that I was planning to use or if I want to turn them around.
unclescott58 Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 Forget the black. I like the blue by itself. As far as whitewalls? From what I remember, it was rare to see a car like that in the 1960's without them. In the 50' blackwalls were still fairly common. The 60's, not so much. Scott Aho
espo Posted June 12, 2014 Posted June 12, 2014 On the color it all depends on what vibe you're going for. When new these were the family hauler and were usually middle of the road colors. Most often a light beige or blue. They could be ordered in just about any color Chevrolet offered, even Iris Mist. I remember seeing reds and maroon, and Chevrolet even had a metallic teal that was very popular. One of my favorites was a medium blue metallic. Lighter colors will not tend to show any imperfections in the body where darker colors tend to show every sin. A trend for a short time in the mid '60s was to have the roof painted a metal flake or high metallic in a contrasting shade.
