mmdm4 Posted June 9, 2014 Posted June 9, 2014 I need to cast a second set of cylinder heads in 1/25 scale, is this easy? Will one of the small resin casting sets from Hobby Lobby do the trick?
English Jules Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 i would think there is a lot of vids on youtube. showing it would be easier than trying to explain it here, esp if its totally new to you. i have no idea what set hobby lobby sell.
Mike Kucaba Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 Making the mold would be easy, as you could just attach it to anything flat that would contain the rubber. Getting a bubble free casting in resin might be a problem.
Jhnwdwrd Posted June 10, 2014 Posted June 10, 2014 The kit from hobby lobby will work. The biggest problem is that the silicone rubber they give you in the kit is quite brittle and your mold will crack in just a few pulls. The rubber does self degass itself so a vacume tank isn't needed. That is the kit I first started with. The resin you get with it is pretty good. With the 40 percent off coupon go for it!!!
Kit Basher Posted June 11, 2014 Posted June 11, 2014 The main thing is to make your mold so that all the air can escape as you pour the resin in. If you follow the advice you have been given above, it should work well. But beware! Casting is fun and can become addictive!
