cobraman Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I am wondering if there is anything special I need to worry about when drilling a hole in resin. I have the Modelhaus Cheetah kit and want to drill out the gauges in the dash. I have worked with resin a few times but never drilled any. I know the resin is kind of brittle so thought I would ask first. Thanks.
jeffs396 Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I've had no problem with normal drill bits Ray, either turning by hand or with a drill motor...
cobraman Posted June 16, 2014 Author Posted June 16, 2014 Thanks guys. I will use my drill press and go slow and use a light touch.
crazyjim Posted June 16, 2014 Posted June 16, 2014 I always start with small bits and work up to larger sizes.
divotdude Posted June 19, 2014 Posted June 19, 2014 Start with a 1/16 bit first and slowly work your way up to the size you need. I usually drill the holes by holding the bit in my hand. I use Black and Decker bits with the 1/4 inch hex at the end. This allows you to grip the bit. Work the bit back and forth, don't force it. If you do use a drill, make sure that the speed is set on the lowest speed. Good luck, and happy modeling.
