First Drag Car build

Recommended Posts

I'm starting with my first build here on the forums. I've chosen tghe AMT Chevy Nova Pro Street for this one.

I will try to make a brass chassis for this one, which I'm drawing up now. Not sure on the interiour since I want to put a lot more effort in this one than I did in my previous models.

Body is painted, so it's all about trying to figuring out how to do the chassis. I'm using 2mm brass tube and some sheet for the wheel wells, is there a bending tool that can bend 2mm tubes? If not, is there another way?

Pictures of the body:

Not sure about polishing since I have never done that before.

Thanks for looking.

Lucas.

Tried to solder a bit, didn't turn out too bad IMHO (Note: First time soldering)

This is the stance I'm looking for, let's see if I can make it happen:

As you can see, Everything lines up pretty good, it's far from perfect, but I'm really pleased with it:

I've done some more work on this, chassis is soldered and I have removed the wheeliebar due to it's instability and it being a bit crude.

Test fit:

Since I wasn't able to achieve the stance I was going for, I opted for this:

More to come...

Excuse me for the blurry pictures, the camera on my phone is acting up.

Got this done today:

Installed the interior, used a donor AMT Oldsmobile 442 from which I also took the engine, Rear wheel wells are from the Nova kit but cut out from the original chassis and trimmed to fit:

As you can see, I already painted the chassis in the color of the body.

Mockup shot how the engine fits:

Also, I didn't have to cut a hole in the middle of the hood for the blower, and it still closes  :

That's it,

Lucas.

Thanks, now that I look at the photo's again, there are a couple things that I need to fix like the firewall and the floor behind the drivers seat. Next time I'm going to buy a bit of that BMF stuff I see on the cars you guys build. Gives it just that more "bling".

Lucas.-
