The school year has been over for about a week now, so I thought that I had better post the pictures of my Grade 5 class’ model cars. It was the most ambitious effort to date, in terms of painting and assembly. Again this year, we left a few parts off, as they would have been too fiddly and frustrating to assemble. All in all, I think they did a great job and I am very proud of all of them. I think that they are quite proud as well. I will let the pictures tell the story.

This year’s project:

Sometimes, I wonder if perhaps I should've taught grammar school instead of high school. I can get away with stuff like this and not get too many strange looks. Well, no more than I usually got from other teachers.

What a GREAT idea! I can hear the idiots at the Mass. Dept. of Ed. howling now at the thought of this, along with most administrators and a huge number of parents.

All the more reason to do it!

Charlie, I am very fortunate that both my Pricipal and the students' parents were very supportive of the idea. The school's parent council generously funded 2/3 of the cost, while I covered the other 1/3. I am a strong believer in hands-on learning, creating, and the pride that it builds. :)
