Started this today, after building a few of Tamiya's Mini Coopers, thought i needed a change from the Coopers.

The Beetle kit is different to the Mini Cooper kits, i was a bit supprised by the amount of mold lines in this kit, there's two on the bodyshell that runs all the way from the front to the rear, right across the roof as well on both sides.

The parts go together pretty much like any Tamiya kit i have built, no flash on the parts but there are a few injector pin marks to be filled or removed.

After the mold lines were removed the body panels were given a few coats of grey plastic primer, left to dry overnight, then given a few coats of white primer, i tried a new primer (To me anyway), made by tetroseal, forget it, it's ######, even after shaking the can it still came out very thin, with very little pigment in it, it took longer to dry out, so it was back to the Hycote i have been using for years with no problems, i will now leave it a few days to dry out, while carrying on with the engine and other parts.

Hopefully when it's finished it should look like this, i've had the Sea Blue paint mixed up in cellulose

Just got it out of the Spray booth, photo's show it slightly lighter than it really is as i had to use flash.

Been away from modelling for a while, but just started to crack on with the Beetle kit again,

Body has now been polished and is waiting for the chrome trim to be added with BMF...

Seeing as how your last post on this was 8 months ago, I'm guessing the paint is good and dry by now! ;)

Yep, hard as nails by now, and being cellulose paint dries pretty much straight away, luckily all the parts have been sealed in plastic containers, so haven't been affected by the dreaded dust, meguires scratch X made a short job of the polishing.

That's looking good, definetly the best VW kit manufactured. I did one about 5 years ago and sold it a few weeks ago but will definetly be picking another one up. There is one in my local Hobby shop that has been there for weeks, I am thinking about going this wednesday and picking it up, it's been calling my name for the longest and I don't want to dissapoint it! I will build it completely stock like I did the first one, I also have a Hasegawa curbside and I am thinking about doing it California style w/ Porsche rims and all that good stuff!!!! :( Good luck on this one, It really is a beautiful kit and very impressive when done right!!!

Been doing a bit more on the Bug over the last few days, but today i dry fitted the bodyshell and chassis, looks like a very good fit, i also added the chrome stip to one of the running boards, using BMF

Well since the Mini Cooper has been finished, I'm trying to get round to clearing the bench, so I can carry on with the '32 Chrysler Imperial that has been on the go for more years than I can remember, so I got to doing a bit more to the Beetle, the body & chassis are now fixed together, and the running boards have been added, now it's mostly the lights and chrome to fix on, shouldn't be too long now ...

i have a karmann ghia in roughly the same shape; gotta get on it this year but i am intimidated by the side chrome spears to foil.

There really not too bad to do, but if I was to build this kit again, I would do a few things a little different, one thing I should have done was to re-scribe the side mouldings, they didn't have a good edge to trim upto.

Done a bit more work on it over the last few days, Bumper, headlamps and front indicators have now been fitted, indicators were painted in Tamiya clear orange, the little grills under the headlamps were giving a black wash using Tamiya semi gloss black.
