TRANS-AM 64.5 MUSTANG W.I.P.

So I have a 1/16 Hardee's T-Bird laying around that was pretty busted up, and I thought to my self..."Self, wouldn't it be pretty cool to take that chassis, and engine and put a Mustang body on it, and paint it up like the old Shelby Terlingua race cars (the yellow and black coupes with the rabbit, but silver and black). Once I find a donor Mustang kit I'll get some more pics going.

A little progress
1. I prettied up the drivers seat with some orange paint, and a little foil
2. opened up the trunk, and gutted the engine bay
3. I narrowed the frame in the center taking out about 1/8" on either side
Next step...and I'm going to need some advice
1. the fuel cell/ frame sticks out to far in the back
2. I'm going to have to ope up the fenders for the wheels, any advice on how to make fender flares?

Does any know what the oil cooler behind the driver seat is for??? I know I know I should have taken a pic, this just randomly came to mind.

If the lines run to the rear it's a differential cooler. If forward, it's a transmission cooler. Either way, they're dash 10 or dash 12 lines.

To make the fender flares you could glue round stock to the openings and fill behind them.

I made the fender flares on my version of this kit by using Apoxie Sculpt (2 part epoxy...Ebay) and filling around a piece of sheet styrene bent around the wheel well (like if the piece of styrene was a tire in the wheelwell.) Once the styrene is in place, you just knead the two parts together and form a long slender "hotdog" of epoxy clay and push it into the styrene at the wheelwell edge. After about 2-3 hours you will be able to do some smoothing on it (gently). Sand/file to your liking the next day, prime and paint. Looks like this \/

Are you using the AMT 64 Mustang and the AMT 1957 T-bird, both in 1/16th?

I built the AMT Mustang a few years ago, and have the AMT T-bird kit waiting for primer right now. I almost sprayed it today.

It's the 1/16 scale 1980s Hardee's NASCAR T-Bird chassis, and drive train, but I'm putting the AMT 1/16 scale Mustang body on it.

Got some progress, I've been hacking away at the roll cage to make it fit, had to move the fuel cell forward quit a bit too

Wasn't liking how my home made roll cage was going so I threw this together, and hopefully I can get some one in town to print this up for cheap
