  1. Sorry to be such a newb. If I use a hair dryer to help dry CA glue faster, will it work?
  2. What color and brand did you use to get the cadmium goldish color on the engine parts? What about the intake manifold and tranny?
  3. Nice work!!! I hope you keep posting...my daughter, along with my help/advise/coaching is going to build this kit for her 4-H project. I would love to pick up a few ideas for her build.
  4. I love the work bench tutorials! I learn something new every time you post. Thanks for all the great tips, Harry!!!!
  5. Starting this kit soon. Look forward to watching your build!
  6. Well, I just found the resin kit. I think that I own the very kit that was sold in 2011 at Ripley Auctions. The box has a very small AntiqueHelper sticker on it that reads LOT 6: http://www.antiquehelper.com/item/377340 I am shocked!!!! FWIW, Ripley and AntiqueHelper are local auction houses in my area.
  7. No... The kit that I have is of Superman in his classic flying pose. Both arms stretched out in front of him.
  8. Skills??? You did a fantastic job on that build!!!! It is beautiful!!!!! Nicer job than I could have done!
  9. I went to a train auction today. I went to buy postwar Lionel. I didn't buy any trains, but I did buy a resin kit of Superman. He is in a flying position. The figure measures about 13 inches head to toe in the position that he is in. If you measure his outstretched arms, the figure measures about 16 1/2 inches long. I cannot find any markings on the kit, on the box...nothing. I will try to add pics, that is if I am smart enough! BTW, I am not into figures, or super heroes, but thought that it might do well on an internet auction site. Thanks!!!!!
  10. Our Michaels is pretty lame, and pushed into a corner on an outside wall. Hobby Lobby is next door, in the same strip mall, and beats Michaels pretty bad.
  11. I just saw on Revell's facebook page that they are issuing a VW bus this year in 1/16.
  12. Revell sent me the clear sprue from a Lambo kit at no charge, even after I clearly stated that I had purchased the kit second hand. I was so impressed that I have purchased numerous Revell kits since then.
  13. It isn't the kit that I was hoping for, but it looks like we will gain another 1/16 scale model to build. http://www.revell-news.de/display.php?M=111055&C=407eb970f6702d62882bdbf7a8c80a07&S=390&L=36&N=135 I was really hoping that Revell would give us a new tooling of a US muscle car, like a Pontiac GTO,Chevelle, Mustang, or hot Mopar car. If you are into Volkswagens, here is your opportunity!
  14. I didn't mean that you literally sold models...just that your cool threads get serious builders and wanna-be's like me thinking about the kits you are building. I often look up the kit that you are building to see if it is listed on ebay, see if there are pictures of the sprues, if there are other versions of the kit, etc. The last time that I looked up a kit that you were building, I actually bought a different model. Your builds are great for the hobby. You are spurring others to buy, so in essence, you are 'selling' models. See what I mean, friend?
  15. I suspect, Harry, that you've sold more models than anyone else on this forum. I know that I've shopped ebay for every kit that you've built. I haven't purchased any of the kits that you've built, but I did buy the '57 T-bird when I stumbled across it during one of those searches. I love your builds and tutorials!!!!
  16. Having built this kit, the doors are crazy difficult. The cab on our kit was warped, as was the frame, the hood, and just about everything else made of plastic...all of it warped. We had a hard time getting the cab to line up, just like you. We had to glue the doors in place.
  17. The wife already knows about USPS flat rate boxes...
  18. Gary, I hear where you are coming from, and have dealt with it some too. I don't buy or sell much in the way of models on ebay. There is one seller who lists tons of parts at insane prices, at least in my opinion. Each part is listed individually and nothing is lotted up or on a sprue. Again, the seller wants crazy prices for the stuff. Like you, I get tired of sorting through his listings. It would be nice to not have to look at them. It is also amazing though...when you look at the seller's completed listings, how much stuff actually sells, even at those high prices!!!!!
  19. My two cents: I am with ya, man. Sometimes I see Lionel trains listed at ABSURD prices. I'm talking about run of the mill engines, that might, on a good day, be worth $150, and is the extreme top end of the market for that model, and the sellers are asking $1,200. It is simply crazy, if you ask me. Now, if you are talking about a model that is consistently selling for $25 to $30, someone who lists one for $39 isn't really that far out of line. Simply said, there are buyers out there who will pay it, and think nothing of it. They just want the item, and they want or need to be done with the transaction. They could care less if one sells in an auction format for $16. They just need and want the model NOW, without hassles. You also have to consider the rise and fall of the ebay marketplace too. There are times when a Lionel 445 switch tower is bringing $90 with a box. I happened to catch a downward wave once, and bought a 445 for only $31, including shipping. For instance, I found a woodworking vise at an estate auction for $3. I knew it was a good one. I had seen them on ebay for $150 to $200. I was very dismayed when I got home. I found that the college boys and the other "I'll price mine for a few bucks less" folks had literally destroyed that market. You could have bought the vise from at least one seller for $35. The vise that I had was nice, and complete. No way was I giving it away for $35...or even $55. I got to studying the oldest completed listings, and found that some were in the $75 to $90 range. I listed mine, with box and all, for $125 plus shipping. It was the highest priced example at that time. Yeah, you read that right. One seller had the same vise for $35 (no box), and I listed mine at $125. I'm sure you would have thought I was a greedy fool if you had seen it. About 45 days later, it sold for $125, and the buyer paid $36 in shipping to his remote location. I think I made $3 on the shipping, which was the USPS discount I got through ebay. I have absolutely NO qualms with asking $125 for my vise. New models sold for almost $400, back when they made them. What should I have done? Listed it for $35 or $40, or wait for the VERY flooded market to recover from the college boys trying to make a quick buck?
  20. Shipping from the US to NZ is outrageous!!!!!!!! I had some wheels and tires left over from a build, and listed them on ebay. They sold to someone in NZ. The box went first class, and weighed less than 8 ounces, and the cost was over $12. I was shocked!!! To my knowledge, the post offices make deals with one another. US buyers can get an item from China in an e-packet for stupid cheap prices, like 99 cents because our PO made a shipping deal with China's PO. But if you want to ship from the US to NZ...wow...it is CRAZY!!!
  21. What ticked me off today? I was driving home on the windiest, hilliest, most narrow road in our area. The road runs about 22 miles, and there isn't a decent alternative to getting home. It was dark, and misting rain. It is not uncommon to hear of very bad wrecks on this road. I know of two fatalities in the past few years. Someone, once again, decided they needed to drive right on my bumper, all the way home. With. Their. Bright. Lights. On. Their headlights were so freaking bright that they were overpowering my headlights, and causing my car to cast a frontward shadow onto the road. They had plenty of places to pass, and to pass safely. I only tapped my brake lights 37 times to give them a signal to back off. Man, was I ever ticked. I know that they would have laughed at me, but I almost called the police. You would have too had you been with me. I am talking about INCHES off of my bumper, while I was driving the speed limit.
  22. I have so much to be thankful for today. I really do, here are a few: I volunteered to help at a food pantry today. It is a reminder that life is hard for some folks. Money isn't growing on trees at my house, but I am thankful for the full pantry we have, comprised of stuff I want to eat. I also did something nice for someone today, and less than two hours later, I was blessed to have found an item for $45 that could easily bring $450 on ebay. #feelingblessed
  23. I didn't exactly buy them this week...I actually bought them almost a month ago. I ebay and flea market for a living, and often buy very large amounts at estate sales. At the last estate sale I went to, I bought a large lot of tools at the tail end of the auction for $20. Included in that lot was an old school, US made bench vise. There were also three very nice quality Williams brand C-clamps in the lot. I've been working down the pile in the truck, and found the C-clamps today. I liberated those C-clamps...and they will find a comfy place in my shop area. I've got a thing for good quality C-clamps. Actually, it is more like a problem. I just can't let a good C-clamp go...I might have a few too many, LOL. I am thinking about liberating the vice too. 5+ inch jaws. Probably a better vise than I have right now.
