Wow...just wow. I wish that I had more time, more skill, and more money. I'd love to build something unusual like that.

You said that you are waiting for USPS to call you back. I shared in another post that I believe that a postal clerk is stealing or destroying packages that ebayers send. The post office finally did call me back, but it was a waste of time...and pretty much a joke. I do think that the gal did run a search for my 5 packages, but since they had been stolen by the clerk, they were nowhere to be found. In essence, even though they called, everyone in that post office circled their wagons, and set up a perimeter of defense. Their biggest claim was "Maybe you didn't label it correctly." Really???? I print labels from ebay every day, and haven't lost anything other than those 5 packages, all in one day, from the same clerk. if you suspect theft, notify the Postal Inspectors!!!!!!!

LOL. I've found that kids are respectful when taught appropriately, especially when you add a BIG warning to the end of the teaching. .

Cool!!!! Anyone built the new Camaro???
-
I think we will spray the bodies...have you ever met a kid that didn't like to try to use a spray can??? LOL. Kids love to paint. If that is the first thing that we do, we should be fine. FWIW, I think we'll split this into at least two days.

Wow...thank you for the replies!!! We won't be going overboard with these builds, but they will be complete with letting them spray paint the bodies, seats, chassis, etc. Has anyone built the Revell Make-and-Take Camaro or Mustang?

Okay, my aunt has two foster boys. Both are very good kids, and we enjoy spending time with them. We took the two foster boys for ice cream tonight, and as we were cruising through another town, we drove by a '65 Mustang. My daughter screamed out, "That is the same car my dad and I built!" That kicked off a big discussion about building cars, to which the two foster boys had never heard of before tonight. As we talked up model building, both boys got very excited about the topic, and both said that they want to build a model. Of course, I tried to help encourage their interest in building, and we talked about what cars they would like to build, colors they would paint it, etc. (I feel passionately about youngsters getting into the hobby. The lessons and skills, not to mention the creative aspect, that can be learned is so important for kids...those are life long skills, IMO.) Here is the dilemma: I don't have much time to build, but when I do build, I like to build big stuff, especially 1/16. I just bought myself an AMT 50's T-bird to build on my own. Of course, you know how expensive some of the big kits can cost... Do I pull the kit out, and have all three of us build it together, letting them do the majority of the work, or should I buy two cheap 1/24 scale kits, and try to coach them as they build? Off the bat, I am thinking each boy should have their own model to build, and they can have something in the end to show for their work, instead of having to share the T-bird. At the same time, I'd love to start them out on big scale! (And I would if the big kits weren't so expensive.) Should we try to build the kit(s) in a few afternoons, or should we spread out the build for a few weeks??? Both boys are 8 years old, and they are 'all boy'...and they are car crazy too.

And the U.S. Postal service wonders why they are losing money.

I was told that around here, if the customer calls about a missing paper, the carrier gets $5 deducted from their pay, and they are supposed to redeliver the paper in person. -

The crew at our local PO is really stellar. You couldn't ask for a better crew, except for the thief. -
The clear view version of the B-17 bomber was selling, at least at one time, on ebay for stupid amounts of money.

Anyone built the Lindberg Stutz racer in 1/16?
clovis replied to clovis's topic in General Automotive Talk (Trucks and Cars)
Thank you, Skip. I might pass then on the Stutz I am looking at. I am not much of a scratch builder...and comparing Harry's work to mine is like trying to compare Mount Everest to a hill in Indiana. I am amazed at Harry's work, and a slew of other builders on this forum, who are building stunning replicas of real cars..,and I am still putzing along still trying to figure out how to get a box stock model together and not get glue on the windshield, lol. -
TRANS-AM 64.5 MUSTANG W.I.P.

I am curious... Are you using the AMT 64 Mustang and the AMT 1957 T-bird, both in 1/16th? I built the AMT Mustang a few years ago, and have the AMT T-bird kit waiting for primer right now. I almost sprayed it today. -
I'd bet that the carrier scanned the item and accidentally left in someone else's mailbox. It has happened many times before. Reminds me of the time when I was desperately waiting on a check from a client. I was b-r-o-k-e at the time, and since I was self employed, I needed that cash to buy the next round of orders for other clients. It was a significant check to me, especially at the time, and the amount is still nothing to sneeze at. Come to find out that the new carrier...my goodness, could they have found a more lame person in the world to carry the mail? Well, that carrier left it in the neighbor's mailbox, who then opened it, and kept it for almost 2 weeks. "You waiting on a check from ___________? I wondered if you were needing it. We got it the other day, and meant to give it to you." All the while, I was thinking, "Yeah, right. Our houses are not 25 feet apart, and you couldn't have walked it over, and put it in my box?" Many people in this world are simply lame, and some of them are full of malice.

Should it be reported to the inspectors even though a good deal of time has passed, and that I have absolutely no proof, whatsoever??? Other than that one very bad apple, I don't think that you could ask for a better crew at that PO. Unbelievably friendly folks, who will bend over backwards to help someone. I also have a carrier that should be nominated for the 'Best Carrier in The United States' award. -
I just watched the slide show...someone is in love with the Unser family, especially uncle Bobby. Would have been nice to have seen pics of Vuky, Wilbur Shaw, Danny Sullivan's Spin-and-Win, Louis Chevrolet, Tom Sneva's 200 MPH qualification, and maybe Foyt punching Cogan, LOL. Thankful that Yahoo didn't run the death-crash photos, like Eddie Sachs and Dave McDonald, Gordon Smiley, Swede Savage, etc. Those pictures are haunting to me.

Being a huge fan of the 500, I love those pics!!!! Those were the days. Granatelli...has there ever been a better marketer in the history of the US? I love the pic of Bobby in the rear engine car.

That sounds like you have a theft problem somewhere along the line. I've had about 8 packages 'lost' in all of the years that I've been ebaying. I highly suspect that a mentally ill woman who works at the post office is either stealing or destroying packages from ebayers, but I cannot prove it. i think it is odd that on two different days, I sent 5 Priority packages with tracking, and 3 priority packages with tracking on another day, which I handed over to this clerk. All eight packages show that they were received at my PO, but they show no other tracking after that. It is just odd. Eight packages handed over to one clerk....and they never showed up again in the system, ever again. Just a month ago, I went to the PO, where another ebay seller was screaming " I handed them to that woman right there!!!!", as she pointed at the clerk who handled my missing packages. I have not handed that clerk another package since then, and there has been some pretty uncomfortable moments when that clerk says "Next in line..." . -

The reason I don't post my work there...well, umm...I'm still trying to figure out how NOT to get glue on the windshield, LOL.
