Prostreet Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Looking for some aluminum semi wheels for a custom 359 project, I know Micro nitro use to make them but he stopped doing them for some reason. Anybody know of other places to get some? did a search and came up with nothing.
Ben Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 looks like MCA (Michael Cherry) in Australia might be the only one making them at this time. The only way I know how to get his parts is though KFS in England.
Prostreet Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Thx. Ben, i just noticed that when i was on KFS and emailed MCA, you have to go direct to them. Wanted to order some stuff from KFS but they don't accept paypal, bummer. I need to contact you for some stuff also Ben, but fotki is down right now.

vincen47 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I have a set of MCA US Style Alcoas. They come with real nuts and bolts, which are nice, but I customized them with .075 acorn nuts (#1455) from RB Motion. They are shown here with Michelin XDY3 drive tires from Ben Wicker's Class A Resin. You may use regular Italeri tires too, as I have done with the steer tires. A set of Michelin steer tires sure would be nice....right Ben?
Petetrucker07 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Man those look awesome. I ordered a set of bridgestones from ben. Im gonna have to get some of those wheels
BigBad Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 Whoa! Love the drive Michelins! The acorn nuts look awesome too! Very nice. MCA wheels are very nicely machined, though a little wide between the rims in the back. But overall excellent stuff!
Turbo590 Posted August 9, 2014 Posted August 9, 2014 I have ordered wheels from Michael (MCA) several times now....for my projects...and very happy with the quality and delivery time(s)....thank you for the info on the acorn nuts.....looks like you are detailing a DD Series 60 in the background....nice details...and decals. Kurt

Prostreet Posted August 9, 2014 Author Posted August 9, 2014 Thx. for all the info guys, i contacted MCA.
BigBad Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 Hey Cary, how did you fix the acorn nuts to the wheels? I went to look for the nuts at RB Motion and the only ones similar to these have a cylindrical extension to them, so I guess you just stick them into the wheel holes?
vincen47 Posted August 11, 2014 Posted August 11, 2014 Robert - Yes, the stud itself fits a bit loose in the hole, but I used a tiny bit of CA on the stud to secure it. The super glue seems to work well, and it is simple and clean. But it is tedious, even with tweezers. I may use a stronger metal epoxy in the future. Though they haven't popped off yet, I don't want them popping off and having to replace them (though this would be a realistic operation like the full size nut covers that go missing all the time!). Originally, I planned to use Scale Hardware's real threaded acorn nuts on the supplied bolts, but they still don't have the nickel plated ones available in 1.2mm. The RB Motion ones look great anyway and are aluminum.
Prostreet Posted August 11, 2014 Author Posted August 11, 2014 Cary. is the gap on the rear wheels really that big or did you add a spacer?
vincen47 Posted August 12, 2014 Posted August 12, 2014 Cary. is the gap on the rear wheels really that big or did you add a spacer? No, that's the way it is. Like Robert stated earlier, it is my only real complaint too. The rear wheels are one piece (though Michael said he has made them separate before, but for more $) and I noticed it more when I put the XDY's on them, as they have less sidewall buldge than the Italeri tires. I'm overlooking it because the overall effect is so pleasing, and they will be mostly covered by a motorhome box. Now, if I was using them on a tractor, especially with no trailer, it might bother me more. But, with a nice set of real metal full rear fenders, rear tail light bar and mudflaps...yeah your large car would be pure class, and those wheels will be perfect... I considered the accurate 1/24 resin wheels from Ben, but I really wanted the real aluminum ones, and it seems MCA is the only choice available at this time and like I said before, the overall effect is really nice.
