Jaguar man 21 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I bought this kit today, I built one a long time ago but it's long gone. The one I built before was grabber orange so I think I'll do it the same way
MrObsessive Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I just won one of those kits (the original '81 issue) on the 'Bay the other day! I wanted to replace the one I lost in a flood several years ago, and if I ever get around to building it, I've got to do something with that front end! Something about those headlights and grille that's bugged me for many years now!
freakshow12 Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 I have like 15 of these lol. The grille looks fine when it's finished correctly and not just black. The factory grille was a dark charcoal. It looks correct enough compared to the 1:1 70 boss nines I get to hang out with occasionally : )
MrObsessive Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 (edited) It's not just the grille, it's the entire front end that never looked right to me. In fact, I remember a thread started by someone years ago talking about this very thing. I'll see if I can dig it up. For most, this is no big deal. But for me, it changes the character of the car compared to the 1:1. I can remember this car when it was new, and during my high school days (mid/late '70's), you practically tripped over them as they were everywhere. Edit: Ok if you click here, there's a thread from back in '07 talking about the Boss 429. Now I don't mean to hijack the thread Jeremy-------indeed if you paint the grille and whatnot properly it'll look nice. Edited August 10, 2014 by MrObsessive
Mike Kucaba Posted August 10, 2014 Posted August 10, 2014 You probably have a very good eye, but everything looks different to everyone. After seeing what someone does with photo overlaying, I wouldn't trust my eyes. I'm interested in the thread you mentioned, hope you find it.
Jaguar man 21 Posted August 14, 2014 Author Posted August 14, 2014 This is the car I'm going to replicate
freakshow12 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Wow. Being a mustang purist all my life I pray that's not a real deal 9. Should be easy enough to replicate in plastic. Oh, I'm woozy now... Lol
Jaguar man 21 Posted August 15, 2014 Author Posted August 15, 2014 It is real... There's an article on hot rod magazines website
freakshow12 Posted August 15, 2014 Posted August 15, 2014 Uuggghhhh. Only way I am ok with that is wher cars like that were originally done when close to new and they were just left that way. A friend of mine has a raven black 69 boss 9 with rear flares, big tires, tunnel ram, big headers etc and some wierd murals on the original raven black paint. It has 16000 original miles and was built this way in 71. I'm ok with that one. Lol
Jaguar man 21 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 I started the fender flares first time I've tried them, I know they still need work
1313 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 hi, i just posted my introduction, im getting ready to start this very model. i want to do a parnelli jones tribute. any ideas how to get the off-yellow color? ...no airbrush, just rattle can...im very new to this
Jaguar man 21 Posted August 31, 2014 Author Posted August 31, 2014 I know there are websites that have the correct paint the closest color I could think of would be testors grabber orange but it's to dark
freakshow12 Posted August 31, 2014 Posted August 31, 2014 (edited) Tamiya ts-56 This is my 70 twister special mach 1 shot in the above paint. It's a good match for what you need. Edited August 31, 2014 by freakshow12
