crazyrichard Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 thnx guys , well nothing went right with the bench , primer stayed soft at the bottom , paint didt spray nice and more .. so today i saved what was sprayed nice and put thin veneer wood on and some thicker strips at the bottom .. a last resort to save it from the bin.. and actually it starts to look way cool .. not what i had in mind but hey not bad either not finished but ...
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Actually I like the wood finish better it matchs better with what you've done so far.
crazyrichard Posted October 23, 2014 Author Posted October 23, 2014 thnx guys .. but the bench wont be used , i stained it hoping i would like it better but the fact is it looks out of place and its more like a house cubbord tv furniture look then a workbench .. this will go in the partsbox and i wil use that for something else .. instead i made a low wall , 2 functions , firt when customers come in they are at the first counter for customers , between the low wall and theoffice i will make like a single saloon door .. then the other counter is for staff / employees .. here a shot of the bench with some woodstain , just doest do it for me as a whole just imagine the bench gone and then a large long u-shaped bench(es) along the wall and the low wall , on the low wall 4 safety windows to protect people standing at the counter , then scratch some machines like a colom drill , saws etc etc .. maybe a small mill machine on the bench , stuff like they would use to do custom work on cars
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 24, 2014 Posted October 24, 2014 Very cool, we used to call that little wall a knee wall.
crazyrichard Posted October 25, 2014 Author Posted October 25, 2014 thnx and cool i didnt know that so the customer earea where they come in and can go to the counter ... added 2 posts to hang saloon style doors on (swivel both ways) and added a low treshold (?) just made the doors , they are stained and are drying atm will be placed like this , with added hinges (have to make hinges for the door outside as well)
crazyrichard Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 customer bell .......time ping ping ping sanded a old headlight house smooth , filed of the bracket and drilled a small hole , then glued in some tiny hollow tube sawed it so its lower and i could use the lower part as a bottom with a small spacer glued them back together and used a round tip steel pin as push buttom > ping ping sprayed some chrome the saloon style doors are in , made brass plate hinges with pins in it on both sides so its a 2 way hinging door
bpletcher55 Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 JUST KEEPS GETTING BETTER .lot,s of little details ,love it .
bobthehobbyguy Posted October 26, 2014 Posted October 26, 2014 Love the bell. You make it so simple the way you do it.
crazyrichard Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 thnx guys and bob actually it kond of is .. the bell took like 30 minutes from idea to finish .. its all about finding and having the right scrap stuff ... i have a whole lot of boxes and trays with plastic and left over stuff thats really helps today i thought .. lets try to make a doormatt at the entrance .. i found a cool mooneyes doormat and sized it in photoshop and printed it ... looked silly just a piece of paper with design .. i scrapped it .. 1 minute later i thought ooh waight i have like the cloth medical tape .. i used that ounce on a bench of a pick-up to make like a cloth looking apolstery ... o knew thats very see through .. so i got the doormat print and put the tape over and got real exited .. looks like soft material with a print @ the door from a distance irl it really looks like fabric and like you could swipe your shoes on it also made a doorhandle and plate
crazyrichard Posted October 26, 2014 Author Posted October 26, 2014 the bell is done and on the counter from a distance , really pops the "chrome" on the stained wood some sunlight ...
72 Charger Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 That is so cool richard . Do you plan exactly what you want to build first or do you let it evolve ?
crazyrichard Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) That is so cool richard . Do you plan exactly what you want to build first or do you let it evolve ? thnx and no i never have a plan at all it just evolves .. like the wall with swivel doors just looked at the dio , got the idea , made it .. when i had the walls up .. i just sat and looked and took materials .. even the office was not planned .. at first i put some low walls there and later thought lets make it into a office .. i find making a plan is boring for me .. i let the idea's and more important the materials i have or find lead me .. dont know thats just the way that works best for me .. just start and see what will come of it Edited October 27, 2014 by crazyrichard
72 Charger Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 (edited) Hey if it works thats cool Ive followed you work for a bit now and im just about to start a dio myself . I will be looking in and maybe if its ok with you copying some of your work . Im not sure just yet what I want to build ? I was thinking of maybe a carpark with a garage/hotrod shop or truck stop?Im still bouncing ideas about. Keep up the fantasic work richard Dave Edited October 27, 2014 by Doobie
crazyrichard Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 no problem dave you can copy what i made , no problem .... hope you get inspiration started on the u-shaped bench top , used paint stirrers as base , they give the the thickness just about like what i have seen from wooden tops online and to stay in the stir theme lol i used blanc coffe stirrers on top of that and got something like this because a i did not want a sterile looking top and b the wood def. needed to be a different tone then the rest i put on thinner from my jar where i clean my brushes in .. that became black over time from all the cleaning of brushes .. that gave it a different tone then took black oil paint and painted the top , sanded it down so the black only stays in the seems and deeper earea's gave it a first coat of woodstain , same as i used on the hardwood but this gives a different tone under the top i think i want steel red painted cubbords ... and then a lot of machinery in top like a standing drill , polish bench ... etc etc .. lots of room
crazyrichard Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 2e coat , thicker and now darker , still see teh black wash but its nicer now
crazyrichard Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 it was tough to find material for the base and possible cubbords underneith ... i took a plastic gutter to hide speaker cable in your home .. took the lid that clicks on the gutter and made a u shape from that .. then took the gutter that sits on your wall , that has a bend shape and a indentation , (for clicking) and hacked that in pieces and glued it under to getr the right hight and it looked cool so on the flat part i can made doors and stuff it fits like a puzzle the top fits so snug that needs to go in sideways , so the underside slides under that .. but it really hugs the wall all round , no seams the sides need to be closed up
crazyrichard Posted October 27, 2014 Author Posted October 27, 2014 closed the sides of the underside , needs some work where it meets the wall tomorrow i will slightly polish the wooden top zo it is flatter and try some matt varnish here you can see the sides need work to hug the wall ...style wise the underside of the bench fits the lift again the mix of old and modern ... i think i will go silver because that blends it in the wall i think that could be cool
Modelbuilder Mark Posted October 27, 2014 Posted October 27, 2014 Always a pleasure to watch your projects unfold.
crazyrichard Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 thnx mark started the cubbords / doors .. now they look small but there are 2 doors per cubbord , so doors next to eitch other will get handles opposite next to eitch other .. that will make all the difference not finished
crazyrichard Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 (edited) handles Edited October 28, 2014 by crazyrichard
crazyrichard Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 added some low drawers for the machine stuff like dril bits etc ... sprayed some silver .. will get some mild weathering later on
crazyrichard Posted October 28, 2014 Author Posted October 28, 2014 black wash , race checkers ... not 100% statisfied with this version but it does fit the theme and the machines will dress it up
crazyrichard Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 made the worktop higher m filled it up between the cubbords ans top so its higher , also changed the bottom skirt , put thin veneer on there .. with some decals , posters and machines i think its going to be good .. still not 100% statisfied but i will make a nother bench next to this ..
72 Charger Posted October 29, 2014 Posted October 29, 2014 Richard I think that looks fantastic . Just needs some engine parts on it
crazyrichard Posted October 29, 2014 Author Posted October 29, 2014 thnx dave well next to this against the wall will be a smaller bench , more conventional .. this one will get all orts of machines , standing drill , small table mill , grinder etc .. at this point i'm happy with the bench , just did some work and now i actually find it cool .. put a asortment of decals on it and that helped , together with the wooden skirt below i like it now when all the machines are build and on and some outlets and cords ... light above the bench it will pop i think glued the wooden top to the base , put steel pint underneith and glued it on so it hugs the walls on the sides .. it a bit fidely to get the bench inbetween the walls and low wall but its in and snug glued the vice on the corner , best place and whow suddenly there was a guy playing with a chevy modelcar ooo00000
