CaseyG83 Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Hey guys, Here is a box made out a plastic tub and old lamp to cure paint faster. I'm not sure if will work or not, but no big deal only took five minutes and was all stuff that was going in the trash. Casey
Raul_Perez Posted January 16, 2008 Posted January 16, 2008 Can't hurt...At least it'll keep the dust off of any enamel paint jobs until it has a chance to dry.
walt francis Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Heck yea that should work ...just check to make sure it don't get to hot
ultraliner13 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Well done on the construction of our drying box. What is the wattage of the bulb you put in your box?
bobss396 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Definitely the poor man's dehydrator, very creative! I would affix a thermometer to the inside just to be safe. I could see a few holes in the top and a slat to block them off for temperature control.
LVZ2881 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 any reason you couldnt drill a hole and seal a meat thermometer into the side to monitor temp?? been considering something like that myself since I have to paint outside..
CaseyG83 Posted January 17, 2008 Author Posted January 17, 2008 So far so good works like a charm! The bulb is a three way 30-70-100. This was not by design but luck! I've covered the top of the box with tin foil to reflect the heat down onto the model and keep the box from warping. Doesn’t seem to get too hot so I think the thermometer is kind of overkill but, I’m also not gonna turn my back on it and leave it on all day while I’m at work… could still use some tweaking…
m408 Posted January 17, 2008 Posted January 17, 2008 Wish I had thought of that. Just spent a bunch on a dehydrator. Question..Wouldn't it need some kind of venting for out gassed solvents?
Clay Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 (edited) That is an awesome idea, I'm gonna have to do that, wife may get pissed about destroying one of her boxes but oh well. What kind of light socket did you use? Edited January 26, 2008 by jones_clayton

What kind of light socket did you use? Its just a three-way light socket out of a busted floor lamp, you can buy lamp kits that have the same socket and cord at wal-mart. if you need better pics let me know And just to let everyone know its working great! i also dried my walet in it that got washed last week
Clay Posted January 26, 2008 Posted January 26, 2008 my wife wants to know if the box and model will get too hot. more pics would be appreciated
