Just wondering if anyone ever did a transkit - or even just a cab- to do one of these. I think I could rework the AMT Road Boss hood to work even if I could find a suitable cab... assuming there is such a thing out there.

A few years back there was someone working on a master for an Autocar ACL which is essentially an updated RB2 cab. I remember seeing pictures on MTDG but don't recall who the builder was. Maybe Tim A , Jim B or Mr Wicker can confirm ....

I have no knowledge of a RB2 or Autocar ACL transkit ever being made. It would be cool if there was as I'd probably get them both (if they were reasonably priced). Here's an ACL I'd like to build:

Recognize the name on the door & grill guard?

I would love to see these available in resin. I for one would add them to my collection of "will get to it shortly" builds. Jim, you trying to tell us something?

No, Bongiovanni Construction in Syracuse is no relation (that I know of). It's just a coincidence. Kind of a cool coincidence, though.

There was a member on MTDG that uploaded pictures to an album of an Autocar ACL. I don't remember who it was, but he was working on a master with hopes of having a cab and hood cast in resin. This was at least 4 years ago, if not longer. Maybe "someone" will remember the pictures I'm talking about.

Sorry Chuck, I feel as if I've let you down. I really thought one of the "truck guys" around here would have stepped up and helped out a "fellow modeler".

Would love see this cab or the kissing cousin cabover. The Road Commode II/Western Star COE. A lot of shared metal between them and both in production for a long time under a lot of badges as the White name went way of the dodo bird.

I believe KFS did the "Road Commode II" a few years back. It included no cutesy decal graphics like this, though...

I've never seen mention of an aftermarket RB2 transkit,I did however drive a "real" one for a short time early on in my career (what a turd!) was REALLY glad to get back in my R-Model Lol!....................Mark

Im sure someone can confirm or debunk this, but I heard that the conventionals were just COEs with a hood in front of it. A mechanic I know told me that he flipped the hood, and the firewall was the face of the cabover. Is that true?

Terry, that is indeed true,i painted the 1:1 truck I posted earlier, and there is no mistaking it was a C.O.E cab adapted to the conventional postion, really "cobbled together" in my opinion...here are a few for comparison, you can really see the C.O.E cab in these photos..........................Mark

Thanks for confirming Mark. I guess its retaliation for some of the first COEs being conventional cabs set up a little higher with a bubble nose. Its makes good sense for mass producing.

Interesting! What would be a good doner kit?

Posted

I would think the current Road Boss/Western Star would be a suitable donor kit? given Autocar was part of the Volvo/White/GMC group and shared many of the same components/chassis. But just a guess?...........................Mark
