Chuck Most Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 Just wondering if anyone ever did a transkit - or even just a cab- to do one of these. I think I could rework the AMT Road Boss hood to work even if I could find a suitable cab... assuming there is such a thing out there.
Guest Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) A few years back there was someone working on a master for an Autocar ACL which is essentially an updated RB2 cab. I remember seeing pictures on MTDG but don't recall who the builder was. Maybe Tim A , Jim B or Mr Wicker can confirm .... RB2 Autocar ACL Edited September 7, 2014 by Modeltruckbuilder
Jim B Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 (edited) I have no knowledge of a RB2 or Autocar ACL transkit ever being made. It would be cool if there was as I'd probably get them both (if they were reasonably priced). Here's an ACL I'd like to build: Recognize the name on the door & grill guard? Edited September 7, 2014 by Jim B
phoneguy Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 I would love to see these available in resin. I for one would add them to my collection of "will get to it shortly" builds. Jim, you trying to tell us something?
Jim B Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 No, Bongiovanni Construction in Syracuse is no relation (that I know of). It's just a coincidence. Kind of a cool coincidence, though.
phoneguy Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 uh huh. likely story. distance cousin on mother's side, 3rd removed and so on.
Guest Posted September 7, 2014 Posted September 7, 2014 There was a member on MTDG that uploaded pictures to an album of an Autocar ACL. I don't remember who it was, but he was working on a master with hopes of having a cab and hood cast in resin. This was at least 4 years ago, if not longer. Maybe "someone" will remember the pictures I'm talking about.
Chuck Most Posted September 8, 2014 Author Posted September 8, 2014 There is an Autocar ACL in resin... thing is it's HO scale, and the mere thought of building anything that small makes my eyes cross. http://www.ebay.com/itm/RESIN-CASTING-1-87-HO-SCALE-1996-AUTOCAR-ACL64B-HOLLOW-CAB-TRUCK-/181160691583 But anyway, thanks for the info guys!
Guest Posted September 8, 2014 Posted September 8, 2014 Sorry Chuck, I feel as if I've let you down. I really thought one of the "truck guys" around here would have stepped up and helped out a "fellow modeler".
Truck parts Posted September 15, 2014 Posted September 15, 2014 I. would buy one if someone came out with one
Chuck Most Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 A guy named Dave Bish is working on an Autocar ACL for Joe Whitman (TL Model Trucks & Parts). I've heard other versions (perhaps including a RB2) in the works. https://www.facebook.com/TLModelTruck?ref=bookmarks
olsbooks Posted January 9, 2015 Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) Would love see this cab or the kissing cousin cabover. The Road Commode II/Western Star COE. A lot of shared metal between them and both in production for a long time under a lot of badges as the White name went way of the dodo bird. Â Edited May 9, 2018 by olsbooks
Chuck Most Posted January 9, 2015 Author Posted January 9, 2015 (edited) I believe KFS did the "Road Commode II" a few years back. It included no cutesy decal graphics like this, though... Edited January 9, 2015 by Chuck Most
Truck parts Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I wish they would come out with a cab over
disabled modeler Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I wish I could help you out Chuck but cant....
Mackvision Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 I've never seen mention of an aftermarket RB2 transkit,I did however drive a "real" one for a short time early on in my career (what a turd!) was REALLY glad to get back in my R-Model Lol!....................Mark
Superpeterbilt Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Im sure someone can confirm or debunk this, but I heard that the conventionals were just COEs with a hood in front of it. A mechanic I know told me that he flipped the hood, and the firewall was the face of the cabover. Is that true?
Mackvision Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Terry, that is indeed true,i painted the 1:1 truck I posted earlier, and there is no mistaking it was a C.O.E cab adapted to the conventional postion, really "cobbled together" in my opinion...here are a few for comparison, you can really see the C.O.E cab in these photos..........................Mark
k100 Posted January 12, 2015 Posted January 12, 2015 Here a KFS White Road Commander ll , that I built back in 09.

I guess its retaliation for some of the first COEs being conventional cabs set up a little higher with a bubble nose. Its makes good sense for mass producing. Mackvision Posted January 20, 2015 Posted January 20, 2015 I would think the current Road Boss/Western Star would be a suitable donor kit? given Autocar was part of the Volvo/White/GMC group and shared many of the same components/chassis. But just a guess?...........................Mark
Chuck Most Posted January 20, 2015 Author Posted January 20, 2015 Joe Whitman (owner of TL Model Trucks) suggests one of the 1:24 Italeri kits, like the Freightliner or Western Star.
