Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 (edited) I just picked this trailer up today. My mind is goin round and round and round trying to decide what truck i should build for it. The trailer will be rollin on super singles. I do know the truck will be a day cab for sure. So what should it be, pete, road boss, western star, international, autocar. Suggestions would be greatly appreciated Edited September 10, 2014 by Petetrucker07
Jim B Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 You could ask 100 different truck modelers & get 100 different answers. Everyone has there own personal favorites. I'd go with a Kenworth, myself; but I do like the idea of the Mack or even the Autocar.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 If it were mine I'd pair it up with an International Paystar 5000 or a Diamond Reo with a set back axle conversion. Or maybe I'd go with a Ford Aeromax 106 converted to a day cab. But I can't shoot down any of the ideas others have already suggested.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Ive even thought of makin a 5 or 6 axle truck out of it. But that went out the window once i got the super singles. I know the truck wont be stretched. I have another ca hauler, but i can always use an excuse to buy another kit.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 I do like the set back axle idea. The trailer looks tough with 3 axles, the set back axle would make it look a bit tougher
Superpeterbilt Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Ive been trying for 15 min, and I cant decide.
Superpeterbilt Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I agree on the S.B.F.A. Diamond Reo
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Gary Wallace (GW Trucks) does a hood to do a set back axle DR. If you really wanted to go all fancy pants, said DR could be a Raider...
asfastasu Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Personally, I would loose the front axle and make it a tandem trailer. It looks to short of a trailer to be a tri-axle. Just my opinion. I vote either Western Star or ihc.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 I do have enough 2 hole buds for truck and trailer too. This trailer has been a real headache. Ive owned it maybe 2 hours now.
Old Buckaroo Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 I would go with a Transtar 4300 just to make it easy, now to spice the trailer up a bit - http://public.fotki.com/modeltrucks25thscale/model_magazine_articles/car_modeller/cm38_july_1996_conv/cm_1996_07_jul_01.html
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 I do agree Sean, the frame does look bulky. Im really leanin toward a sbfa reo. Im gonna be ordering pete hoods from Gary anyway. Does anybody have a spare 1st drive axle, the 1 with both in/output driveshafts. Kinda gettin some creative gears turnin now.
redneckrodder Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 A prostar or a paystar would be cool
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Whats the difference between the road boss and reo, besides the hood and badging. Im just thinkin of saving a few pennies if the parts are basically the same
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 As far as the kits go, the hoods, frame rails, fuel tanks, battery boxes, and interiors are different. The Reo has cast spoke wheels on all axles, the White has Alcoas on the front.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Ok, the cab is all thats similar.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Forgot- the tires are different as well (if you are talking about the current reissues). The White has Goodyears, the Diamond Reo has Uniroyals.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 I really like your road boss. Wanna kinda go for that look, with sbfa.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Ok, the cab is all thats similar. More or less. The White Western Star shares more with the White. The Diamond Reo has more specific components.
Petetrucker07 Posted September 10, 2014 Author Posted September 10, 2014 Ok. Thanks everyone. I think i have a direction now. Time to start tracking down parts.
Guest Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Or maybe I'd go with a Ford Aeromax 106 converted to a day cab.
Chuck Most Posted September 10, 2014 Posted September 10, 2014 Or.... Aeromax 120 converted to a day cab?
