GasPunkAlley Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I have been restoring some old models I had in storage. This was the last car I built and finished back in 1997. It was the first model car I experimented with using acrylic paints. The chassis is Kylon safety orange but the rest I used Createx airbrush acrylics and Tamiya acrylics. The body is painted in Createx Pearl Yellow and Tamiya Gloss clear. The interior and engine are primarily Tamiya paint. I wasn't happy with the way the engine came out, the acrylic metallic in the late '90's weren't as good as the Vallejo Air range is now. When I first built the car I was not happy how the body sat on the frame and the node was in the sky. After I dug it out I had to clean and glue some parts back on and I was able to fix the nose - yeah! I also ruined the nose decal so that is not on the car and my panel lining was rather weak. I am still trying to find the painted Big Daddy figure. The best part is that Ed Big Daddy Roth himself signed the base for me at the Autorama a few years before he passed away.
Maxicoop Posted September 21, 2014 Posted September 21, 2014 I bought one of these at a swap meet ............ seeing your makes me want to get mine out and build it .... super build !!!!!!!!!!
D. Battista Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Cool blast from the past...!! Nice job man...!
GasPunkAlley Posted September 22, 2014 Author Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) Thanks guys! This was the last model car I built. I started on a '49 Ford sectioned coupe (which i have posted in the workbench section on this site) amongst others and those projects have languished until now. I did a lot of garage kits and figure models over the past 17 years and mostly all acrylic paint work. It will be interesting to see if any of my Testo and Pactra paints are still viable after all of these years. The slow dry time for enamel always bummed me out.
