Speedfreak Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 (edited) This article from Dragzine (with pics) is a gold mine for replicating an unmolested, accurate A/FX type Ford S.O.H.C. 427, as they were delivered from Ford in 1966. Enjoy. http://www.dragzine.com/news/original-ford-427-sohc-crate-engine-on-ebay-for-65000/ Edited September 22, 2014 by Speedfreak
10thumbs Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Thanks Gene. Too bad it was last year, I could've used a couple to put on an empty shelf in the garage. Michael
jwrass Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 Their is a excellent 2 page critique article on the 427 SOHC in Scale Autos The Best of Bench Racer #618218 (no date printed on the publication) written by Drew Hierwarter. The discussion is his opinion which manufacture made the best replication of the SOHC with pictures. The pictures are of four engines he built so you can get a show and tell version of said engine, he built them as follows: One with a single carb NASCAR version, One as a dual carb Pro Stock version, One as a blown Gasser version, and one as a injected AFX or Jr Dragster version. To me it was a great read and interesting to see the differences of the replications. I need some input!!!! If I were to make a PDF and post it will I get naughty points! Don't need no naughty points. jwrass
Ace-Garageguy Posted September 22, 2014 Posted September 22, 2014 If it's been printed in SA, there is definitely a copyright issue you'd create by posting anything copied from it here; even just the text if you re-type it is verboten. If information (including photos) is available as "open source" material on the web, you can usually get away with re-posting pix and text under the "fair use" definition of copyright law, which allows limited un-licensed use of copyrighted materials for "teaching" purposes. Anything that's been printed in another magazine, scanned, photocopied, re-typed, or quoted at length and then put up by someone other than the copyright holder (without express written permission...especially something from the "competing" magazine) is asking for trouble.
Speedfreak Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) I'd love to see that article Rass, PM sent. Running with the 'cammers! Edited September 23, 2014 by Speedfreak
jwrass Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Ace, I figured as much that's why I asked. In the supplement their is no disclaimer but I'm not looking for a cease and desist notice or naughty points. Thanks much "RASS"
unclescott58 Posted September 23, 2014 Posted September 23, 2014 Great to see this article right now. Last Wednesday I picked up AMT's recently rereleasted '33 Willys Panel Truck. It comes with this engine. The engine in the kit looks pretty good compared to the photos at this link. Thanks Gene for posting it. Scott
Speedfreak Posted September 23, 2014 Author Posted September 23, 2014 (edited) No problem Scott, that's what makes this place worthwhile (is that one word?) That Willy's 'cammer is a nice one, I have that kit too. The '65 Mustang Funny Car 'cammer isn't actually that bad either. It does have the correct valve cover's for an early A/FX version of the engine, which is what is shown in the article I posted. By that I mean it doesn't have 'Ford' stamped into the covers.
