Toner283 Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 interesting frame rails cover on ol' 54 Those are the stock splash aprons. On a Model A Ford, you can easily remove (relatively speaking) the headlights and headlight bar, the front and rear fenders and the running boards in a few minutes as they all bolt to the body. Removing the splash aprons is more involved as they are captured between the body and frame rails. To remove them you need to remove the body bolts that bolt through holes in the splash pans and loosen the rest enough to lift the body a half inch or so to be able to slide the splash pan out. this is a time consuming process and not something that most racers would want to do at the races. Especially if they had to reassemble the car to get home. Trying to install splash pans and line them up with the front and rear fenders, the running board and all of the assorted brackets is no fun by yourself and even with a second set of hands can be frustrating. Definitely some cool cars. Thanks for the link.
PeeBee Posted October 6, 2014 Posted October 6, 2014 I assume this was run on Saturday. If they had the kind of rain we had in CT (my town's about 70 miles NNE of Wildwood) that had to have been some wet racing. Looks like a heck of a lot of fun. I use to be involved with vintage sports car racing until the meets became big-buck, highly promoted events and all the fun went out of it. Or, maybe it was just me no longer with any time on my hands and five kids to raise... PB.
