unclescott58 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I never thought I'd ever hear anybody claim the Maverick dashboard to be their favorite. It's okay that's it's your favorite Tulio. I'm just surprised by it. Though the console and the tach really help in the photo you provided. And I'm with you Andy on the '72 - '79 mid-size Ford/Mercury full instrumentation dashboards. They were one of the better looking and laid out dashes. Even the "regular" dashboard with less gauges was pretty good on that generation of mid-size FoMoCo products. Scott
mrindy77 Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I saw this one at Back to the 50's a few years ago. It was in the Chip Foose booth. It is gorgeous and so simple...the leather work was outstanding.
Pete J. Posted April 22, 2015 Posted April 22, 2015 I saw this one at Back to the 50's a few years ago. It was in the Chip Foose booth. It is gorgeous and so simple...the leather work was outstanding. Unfortunately, this is an issue that I see more and more and it goes against my grain. First off, it is a gorgeous cockpit but it looks like the only instrumentation I see looks to be a clock and a speedo. To me that is indicative of a public that doesn't want to be involved with the mechanical end of the car. In this electronic world, too many people don't want to understand how things work, they just want to get in and go. I grew up in a world where you, the driver, was responsible for monitoring what was going on under the hood. The dashboard was a tool for presenting that information in a clear, understandable manner. Making the dash pleasing to the eye was the sign of a craftsman at work. Most of the digital dashes I see now have a ton of information, none of which has much to do with the operating of the car. Radio stations galore, air temperatures and weather reports, sound settings, video from the front and rear of the car, electronic side information, text messages and phone calls. All of it seems to be aimed at letting the driver think about anything but driving the car and monitoring what is going on around them. Best dashboard? Na, not in my book, but then that is just my opinion.

MPi-KM Posted April 25, 2015 Posted April 25, 2015 I always liked the ones in Japanese cars from the 80's especially ones with digital gauges.
