Scale-Master Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) The body was cleaned up and the panel lines scribed a little deeper and the two piece hood was cemented together and the resulting joints were filled before priming. Tamiya Brilliant Orange decanted and airbrushed… Edited October 15, 2014 by Scale-Master
freakshow12 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Very nice but not correct for a KR. I really like that orange. Looks very close to grabber orange
Scale-Master Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Thanks!I'm not too worried about it being 100% accurate, I have some good reference that shows other issues I'm not going to correct. This one is a quick dry run only to see how the kit builds (assembles) straight from the box so I will know what to address on another one down the road. But that doesn't mean I can't have some fun painting it...
Art Laski Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 Mark, that paint looks great. What kit is this?
Scale-Master Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Thanks Art. It's the Revell. Says it builds a 2008. Blue car on the box top.
Scale-Master Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 Thanks. I painted the one piece chassis a mix of brown, tan and fluorescent orange. Then I dry brushed silver to lessen the brown tones. Contrast was added by hand brushing some of the molded in details as was a light wash to accent the engraved parts.
freakshow12 Posted October 15, 2014 Posted October 15, 2014 That's looking sharp. They go together pretty nice other than the kit tires and stance suck
Scale-Master Posted October 15, 2014 Author Posted October 15, 2014 (edited) That seems to be the main complaint I've heard too. This is the under hood area, painted the body color from the top after I pre-shaded it from the bottom then brush painted the details. Edited October 15, 2014 by Scale-Master
slusher Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Great shade of orange. Real nice chassis painting and detail..
Scale-Master Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Thanks! I assembled the front suspension much as the instructions indicated, but for the rear suspension I dry fitted these parts and only cemented them to each other so I could remove them from the chassis (used as a jig) for later installation. Using the chassis like that also helped make it easy to set up the front struts without measuring anything.
Scale-Master Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 I didn’t like the look of the chrome wheels for this one and I thought the Brass Monkey coloring for the wheels would work with the body color. I mixed an approximation from Rustoleum Bronze and Tamiya Fluorescent Orange.
Tonioseven Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 Other than the wheels and tires, I dig where this is going. You NEVER fail to disappoint and i always learn something from your builds. Great stuff, man!!
Scale-Master Posted October 16, 2014 Author Posted October 16, 2014 Thanks Guys. Engine ready to be dropped into the chassis
freakshow12 Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 (edited) Looks good. Your passenger side cam cover is on upside down. That hole should be at the front. Oil cap goes there. Easy fix See Edited October 16, 2014 by freakshow12
slusher Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I like the wheel color, something different..
chunkypeanutbutter Posted October 16, 2014 Posted October 16, 2014 I was just about to say that about the upside-down doohickey.
Monty Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 (edited) Looks good. Your passenger side cam cover is on upside down. That hole should be at the front. Oil cap goes there. Easy fix See I wouldn't sweat it, once the car is completed I have my doubts the valve cover deal will ever be an issue. Carry on and enjoy the ride Edited October 17, 2014 by Monty
Monty Posted October 17, 2014 Posted October 17, 2014 I was just about to say that about the upside-down doohickey. Forget about the valve cover - no one will complain about it, if they look of the whole work of art, which they are installed incorrectly, are they?? Just my two cents.
Scale-Master Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 You guys actually thought I installed the valve cover upside down by accident and even missed the engraved lettering? You might want to right click that photo and check out the title of it in the URL Bazinga. Rather poignant commentary there Monty... Engine ready to be dropped into the chassis
Scale-Master Posted October 17, 2014 Author Posted October 17, 2014 Engine installed along with the rear suspension…
